Everyone say one good thing or memory you love about WoW

The forums are depressing most of the time because of all the negativity. Can we for once, give ourselves a break from that and just all say something that we love about this game from the past or present? We have drilled it into our heads so much during the last while that it’s cool to hate WoW but c’mon, let’s put some positivity back in these forums.

I’ll start:

Whenever I hear the song “shimmering flats” I get such a nostalgia trip. Sometimes I create a new character just to play to like level 10 to do all the early quests in Westfall even though I know I won’t play that character that much after that.

I will never forget my first time running The Deadmines back in the day. That was such a well-designed, fun leveling dungeon.

Way back when I was new to the game, I remember walking into Ragefire Chasm for the first time and saw one of those textured rocks off to the side that was supposed to look like lava. For some reason, I found it immensely amusing that I could stand on it without taking damage, as I hadn’t seen “real” lava yet and figured that’s how the game tried to portray it.

Later that day, a friend logged on and we started to slooowly two-man our way through the dungeon. We got about 2/3rds of the way through before getting tired, in the room with the spiderweb platform design that’s suspended over lava.

“Hey, watch this,” I said as I leapt off the side and into the lava.

Oh, ow. This lava actually hurt. So now I’m bouncing up and down like a madman, desperately trying to swim to land, and I end up dying just as I reach the lava’s shoreline along the perimeter of the room. My friend takes the long way around and runs down to me, and without missing a beat, he typed:

“Anakin! You were the chosen one! I have the high ground!”

I was not amused back then.

My son when he was 11 years old, introduced me to this “new game” one of his classmates told him about. That was back in 2006. At first, I only played when he did, but it didn’t take long for me to get hooked. So some of my earliest memories involve playing with him. I get nostalgic when I hear the music of Elwynn Forest and Stormwind, and it brings back good memories with my son when he was little.

I remember for a brief period in Wrath, hunters could tame Worgen. Fun detected of course.

When I got my first mount at level 40, back in 2005 lol. It was so great not having to walk around anymore. Then finally being able to afford the “Swift” mount at level 60! I didn’t think I was ever going to have enough gold. :joy:

I have to add, all the friends I’ve made along the way. Most are like family

Killing Ragnaros after weeks of wipes with my guild in firelands.

A close second is when I was the top 14th dk on my server. High enough for players to seek me out for advice, but still low enough to be approachable. Man what a time.

I love Brewfest and Hallow’s End seasonal events. Of course, Karazhan is still my favorite all time dungeon/raid.

I agree, imo that was the best raid ever made! So many different themes. The chess event was really interesting!

On my original Horde mage, having a back-and-forth mini-skirmish with a few other random people in the Zoram Strand. Alliance outnumbered us, but we had the npc’s joining in whenever the fight got too close to the little Horde town there. That was so much fun

Hang on, I need to access the archives.

Ah… man I really was hooked during Kara, and loved PvPing for the next 3 or 4 expacs. I remember many a late night BG session with the bois just hanging out and having fun.

I remember being able to say wild things like:

“Hang on, I’m gonna switch to my lock for a while because I have that option since we can easily gear alts to a reasonable level without them getting globaled and feeling nightmarish to play. I sure hope they never make PvP gearing like that in the future!”

Sorry, where was I?

Been playing since TBC and there are so many memories.

I keep playing because I/we keep generating new ones.

WoW has connected me with people who are my RL friends today.

More than a decade ago some people were putting on an event for Blizzcon goers just to hang out in the couple months leading up to it. Since it was local at a public place I decided to show up. I spent some time trying to find them when I was about to give up and leave. Then someone who saw my mage shirt with the mage class insignia on it pulled me aside and said “Oh you’re one of us.”

Some no longer are active in game but I’ve had countless memories exchanging our stories in game during that event and others. I have also spent days at Disneyland, a Thanksgiving holiday, numerous bonfires, and drinks at bars with them. Come to think of it I hosted a Super Bowl party while celebrating my birthday at my apartment once which they were part of. Finally we’ve put on our annual after parties at Blizzcon to strengthen our community which what we looked forward to most each year in the past.

Getting my cat form from the mage tower. Taking the boat from Teldrassil for the first time awed at how big the World was. Riding my mount with two friends from Ashenvale to the Barrens. First time I saw the darkmoon fair.

And yes for me the music and vibe for the night elf starting zone is acutely nostalgic and floods me with good memories… so I too have created many alts just to relive that.

I would absolutely live in a restored Karazhan if I could…

I was on a long forgotten paladin alt, back in 2006, and I was running SM. The group was relatively undergeared for it but we managed to make it to the end. After a series of wipes, a priest and I managed to kill Arcanist Doan by kiting him back and forth between rooms. For some reason, I still remember the name of the priest and the druid I was grouped with that day. It was a fun run.

I have many more fond WoW memories but this one is probably my oldest.
