I am one of the many sitting in a queue right now and have been for a few hours. I have been monitoring the forums to pass the time and people are being ridiculous saying things like, “I want my money back” or “How could Blizzard let this happen after 15 years?!”.
First off, you didn’t pay for classic. You paid for a subscription to WoW and they added classic as a free feature. Second, I know many people complaining aren’t network or systems engineers, but you have zero knowledge of how Blizzard’s technical approach to server management in their data centers actually works and need to stop acting as you do. No one does exactly, except for them.
The picture that people are trying to paint that Blizzard gave a technical half-effort and simply said, “Meh, this should do” are just wrong.
Thanks for classic Blizz, excited to play

Actually people who came back specifically to play classic did pay for it. That’s why we are here. We aren’t here to play old tired pos WoW…we wanted classic. Blizzard has, for years shortchanged and taken for granted the people who have supported them. This is another opportunity for us to see just how little we matter to them.

Sitting in long queues to play a game is a bit silly. They should have more servers to start with and if they do not get enough people, merge servers.
People are allowed to be mad, especially if they took the day off to then sit for 3 hours waiting to play a game.
I am not currently in queue as I am at work but I most likely will have to tonight and I am not looking forward to it. I’ve sat in queues for most expansions of WoW and its irritating when you are so excited to play a game.
Also for a lot of people it is not free as they had no plans to play the current WoW expansion, they came back for Classic.

That’s like disparaging a car owner for being upset a brand new car won’t start because they aren’t an automotive engineer. Gatekeeping dot com.

The only thing that irks me now is they’re putting up an EST RP-PVP server now when it was apparent a majority of the Grobb playerbase was looking to be out of EST/CST zones.
For quite a number of people the ping difference between LA and Chicago datacenters can be an issue.
I agree most people are getting really carried away with how upset they are, but I also agree that it does seem a bit ridiculous. You have a good point, the majority of us really don’t know what their technical approach to server management is like. And that being the case it’s really hard for any of us to imagine why it would be this way when we usually never experience anything like it.
The most frequent reason I’ve seen for the lack of servers is that Blizzard wants to make sure realm population stays high in the weeks and months following Classic’s release. Even considering that it doesn’t make much sense why they wouldn’t be able to merge low population servers to keep the community thriving once players start dropping off. Realistically they should have the money/resources/time to handle an influx of this capacity and whatever reason they have for doing so hasn’t been incredibly clear or reasonable.
All that being said, people on these forums have been acting pretty dumb and its like nobody asked you to be here so do something better with your time and money if its so precious. You “waited 15 years for this” so you can wait a little longer.
Edit: For real though they at the very least could have given us an accurate damn estimated time. It shouldn’t be jumping from 200 minutes to 18 to 500 to 40. I at least wanna know what time I should come back to my computer instead of watching my screen.
Riiiight! People need to chillax! It’s not like it’s a game or anything, right?

If you take the day off on launch day, you’re the idiot. if you think the world revolves around you, you’re the idiot. Wait and play or go play retail you swines

Car owners don’t blame the manufacturer when their tire pops
They do when it’s not off the lot
How does that make them an idiot?
Oh I guess it’s crazy to think a game should launch without a wait time/queue?
A friend played wow he did the time played and figured out he could have bought a new car. He multiplied the time played by minimal wage. So he not playing anymore.
Careful. Your asking people to use common sense and think rather than give in to the echo chamber.
Cars arent notorious for breaking down on the day you get them. Games are known to have issues on launch day, especially this one. Cars dont come with a few thousand other people to fight with you over use of it, games do. When you buy a car you are buying a physical product. This is a monthly service. Do you also call your internet company to scream about a storm knocking out your connection?
Your comparison is completely stupid and illogical.
I agree with most of your post. And actually believe in the long run that this approach will lead to healthier server pops. But we all know opinions are like…
However, ive see this “you didnt pay for classic” line quite a lot. Its absolutely wrong. I wouldnt be here paying for a wow subscription if it werent for classic. Stopped playing in 2011. I did try to play retail a couple months ago and it just isnt my jam. Yes, its a shared subscription, but I am only interested in classic. Im sure this goes for the countless subs that just came back. What we are also paying for is the longevity of classic for those of us that stick around.
Im sure there are retail players that view classic as a side game to play in between xpacs for retail and thats fine.
