Everyone’s Problem With Undead Elf Skins

Rangers are people who live in the woodlands and protect nature, their favored weapon(s) are often a bow and arrows or melee weapon.

In WoW, they literally are hunters. Not the paladin or any other class in your guild thinking they’re a ranger

The achievement unlock itself is, but Blizzard literally calls the customization option ‘Dark Ranger Elf’ customization.

As I said, it’s spelled out fairly clearly.

It would be different if Blizzard called the customization ‘Darkfallen Elf’ customization. Then anything goes, because as we know from the existence of the San’layn, who are also Darkfallen, any elf can be raised into undeath like that. But Blizzard specifically wrote ‘Dark Ranger Elf’ customization.

Not to mention one of the rewards you can unlock from doing that same achievement is ‘Ensemble: Dark Ranger Attire’ so…

Which…only ONE class, conviently called the HUNTER class can use.

It’s like blizz spelled it out for people and those same people still refuse to accept it

The armor yes, the skin eye condition, no. You do have to do the quest series ON a hunter to have it available though.

I don’t mind folks making their characters what they want to. It’s their characters, and hell with the stuff I’ve created for mine (which include entire kingdoms that don’t exist in canon lore) I’d be a massive hypocrite if I got uppity over someone else’s character backstory.

So folks can do what they want.

But officially, as far as Blizzard are concerned, they’re all Dark Rangers, aka Hunters.

Point is, someone can RP they’re Druid or any other elf class as being Darkfallen all they want. It’s not cannon

Oh I know that. I’m just saying, people have a tough time separating their RP from actual lore sometimes. Just because we RP something and others go along with it, doesn’t make it cannon you know?

That’s all my point was/is

It’s as canon as any other choice. Leave the gatekeeping to the Trekkies.

It’s not cannon my guy. Much as you or anyone else wants it to be. Doesn’t mean blizz won’t change it down the line.

But until blizz makes it OFFICIALLY part of the lore, the only Darkfallen that we have are the Dark Rangers

Canon is ‘official lore’.

Officially, as per the game and the literal story of that quest chain, all of the Darkfallen that join the Alliance are Dark Rangers, aka Hunters. Now you’re free to RP whatever you want, no one can stop you, but canon lore states that all Darkfallen within the Alliance/Horde are Dark Rangers (with the one exception of Lorash Sunbeam). This is just a fact.

If Blizzard could restrict character creation/customization options based on class, they absolutely would, but they can’t actually do that, so you’re free to use the ‘Dark Ranger Elf’ customizations for any class you want, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are ‘Dark Ranger Elf’ customizations.

If they wanted to, they could. They restricted the transmog to Hunters after all, it’s not for Shamans or any other class, it could have been an any class transmog like the Heritage ones. But Blizzard doesn’t have such a restrictive attitude to the undead status itself.

Again, they’re called ‘Dark Ranger Elf’ customizations.

Not Darkfallen customizations.
Not San’layn customizations.
Not Undead Elf customizations.

Dark Ranger Elf customizations.

I don’t know any other way it can be explained to you.

And again, so what? It doesn’t matter what they’re called. The name of a mechanic has nothing to do with roleplay.

And again, Ranger is a name for an association, not a class. this is not the TTRPG class you’re thinking of.

DARK RANGERS…are get this….risen hunters. Hence why they are called DARK RANGERS. Why are you so insistent that your RP is cannon when it clearly isn’t?

Rangers in WoW are hunters my guy.

If you want to discuss your RP and headcannon, there’s a Roleplaying forum. Go use that for that sort of discussion

You don’t get the point. I don’t give two coppers about canon when it’s used for gatekeeping. None of what you’re saying about has any expression in game. Any class can go through the quest and the skin eye customisation doesn’t come with a “Only Hunters should be using this” text on it.

And nobody is stopping you from RPing whatever you want. You just can’t come to the OFFICIAL LORE FORUM and expect people to take your RP as cannon when it isn’t.

End of story. Have fun, it’s not official cannon

This isn’t THE OFFICIAL LORE FORUM, there ain’t no such beast. last time I checked it’s the Lore/Story forum the forum that Blizzard plays the least attention to unless someone really really behaves badly. Blizzard’s only use for lore is to move players from one part of the game to another.

This is where players come to get feedback from players. It’s not the Supreme Court of Lore.

It’s literally called the STORY FORUM…where we discuss the CANNON LORE/STORY.

There’s a whole forum called the ROLEPLAYING FORUM my guy, go use that

Uhh, yes it is.

In fact, the sticky post here:

Literally says this:

2. THIS FORUM IS NOT FOR FAN-MADE FICTION

Despite what the name may imply, the Story Forum is not for sharing or discussing fan-made material. It is for discussing officially sanctioned lore/stories only. In short, if it doesn’t have a Blizzard logo, it doesn’t belong here. That doesn’t mean you’re forbidden from linking any fiction you may have written (it can be useful in explaining your position on a topic, for instance) or posting the odd paragraph; however, copying large amounts of text or creating threads specifically for any fiction you’ve written will be deleted or moved.

If you want to discuss your own material please take it to the fine folks at the World’s End Tavern Forum (otherwise known as the RP forum).

So, I’m sorry, but Micah is right, this forum is for discussing official lore and the stories that Blizzard has written. If you want to discuss your own RP and your own creations, then the best place to do that is the World’s End Tavern Forum, aka, the RP forum.

What we’re discussing however is a game appearance mechanic that was made available to more players than the subset that Micah feels it should be reserved for.

The headcanon is Micah’s not mine. No one has a valid reason to go to any player who is using the customisation on a non-hunter character and tell them that they’re doing it wrong and that is the position that Micah is taking and I’m disputing.

The very inclusion of “Everyone” in the title of this thread is pretentious to say the least.

It’s also dead wrong.
