I know most wont stay because of the subscription model, vanilla should be a game you can just log onto with your gaming friends and pick up where you left off whenever, unpopular opinion, ik.
I have every RaF mount from IRL friends playing with me, i know a lotttt of people that have dabbled in wow and every single one plans on giving classic a go.
Does blizzard understand how important and large classic is going to be?
Is everybody else gathering the same consensus from people they know?

I too have been generating Classic hype and thus converted nearly all of my gaming friends into playing it.

When I was a kid I understood when my friends complained about the sub cost. We were kids and for those of us who werent well off, $15 was alot. But once I got a job $15 really isnt much all things considered. Especially when coffee at starbucks is $5, eating at a sit down restaurant is going to run you atleast $20, and god forbid you go out to the bars to drink. Things are expensive and $15 a month for entertainment isn’t much in the grand scheme of things.
I mean in conversation subscription fee is always brought up by the person that doesn’t play, it’s not like they cant afford it, it just becomes a comparison. say their favorite game right now is apex and they cant get enough, trying to justify paying for a an ancient game vs a free polished one they love is a no-brainier.

Understandable, in a world where free games are released constantly with an emphasis on microtransactions(either cosmetic only or to gain a advantage) its easy to dismiss a game on the basis of cost.
But I think it one of the games you have play in order to see its value. I think if you talked your friends into atleast giving it a try for a month or two, they will see that its worth it. But thats just my opinion anyway.

Not EVERYONE I know is going to play Classic… but everyone I know that played/plays WoW is.
Blizzard is underestimating how popular the game will be. Here is who will be playing:
-
The hundreds of thousands of players who have been clamoring for Classic and who were a part of the private server attempts to bring it back to life.
-
A huge potential of players who have left the game over the past 12 years. I mean think about… more people have quit playing the game than ever played it concurrently. Many millions of potential players who never played Vanilla but loved BC and/or Wrath, may want to come back to experience “Vanilla”. Especially those who quit playing because of how different the game has been for the past several expansions. It is safe to say that Classic will be more like BC/Wrath than it would be like WoD, Legion, or BfA.

Current WoW players who again want to experience what Vanilla was like, or add it to their “collection” of experienced expansions. If my guess is right, live WoW is going to takea pretty big hit in activity when Classic launches… and the people in modern WoW will log over to participate in the community. This is where i see it being a real danger to modern WoW. The experience is entirely different community wise. Once you go “back”…
The current devs just can’t fathom how their shiny new baby could ever play second fiddle to Classic… which is why the game has become the rng based, lobby/queue game it is today. If Classic goes viral, it will force devs to shift development decisions toward the older methodology.
Either way… Classic offers me 2 more years or so of “real WoW” experience… I hope it spawns Classic TBC and Classic Wrath, in which case the next 6-7 years will be golden! Otherwise my WoW journey became very weak fr the past few expansions and ended completely sometime in Legion.
I think that most of the current WoW players will miss the Vanilla experience. They will log in and run as a 5 man group (going to have to if they log in at launch)to go through the starter zones then come to the forums to claim how easy and boring Classic is.
Unfortunately only 2 of my friends are coming back to play Classic. The other 8 or so who’ve played WoW aren’t interested.
