This game is getting harder to play and not by selecting another level of difficulty but these new addons attempts keep slowing the game down.
sure my old PC may need an upgrade but it runs other games just fine - but wow is hogging the CPU and only getting worse.
Meanwhile the newest addons make it seem like the game is going mobile and actually improving.
3 to 14 average FPS in full raids.

I’m in the same boat. My computer is definitely getting older but it still plays the game fine for most content. Then random stuff will just slow it way down. The raid is fine but anytime the camera is forced to zoom in like the last corridor before the final boss on Floodgate slows me way down and the third boss on Motherlode just makes my compute chug like a potato. The new swirlies are nice but that fight has WAY too many of them. Ha Ha My computer protests.

I guess you were not around when Dalaran was new and was making people lag and disconnect because the place was built with too many wireframes and or assets.
So they overhauled Dalaran and more people could finally doing things there.

I don’t want wow to be built around a toaster. I want wow to take advantage of the latest computing power.
stand around in legion zone like suramar and my computer uses 150 watts to render 60 fps, stand around in isle of dorn which is much emptier zone and computer suddenly uses 300 watts. My conclusion is optimizing the game went out the window completely and virtually zero effort is put into what probably use to be 30 percent of development time.

Not possible cause WOW engine is over 20 years old and most of game uses only 1 cpu core mostly which is the bottleneck for people.

All MMOs are build around toasters. They need the widest player base possible to stay afloat.
Not true on my Mac. It uses 4 of my performance cores relatively evenly.

oh my gosh i just got flashbacks. the infinite load screen. the voice proxy disconnect/connect immediately as i finally load in. then the rendering of the town for a solid 20 seconds.

i’m having a much better time with fps in this raid than i did in palace, court would freeze my pc with the web effects on the floor. sometimes i lower the render scale to help but i don’t always need to. i’m just having a problem with really long loading screens.
They have upgraded the engine numerous times throughout the years. Which is why we have had graphical updates several times and how they can continue to improve quality over the years.
Modern pc’s can run wow like butter. My pc is 3 years old and was pretty expensive for the time. It’s never had performance problems with wow and I’ve only ever played on ultra with everything maxed.
But yea, people should upgrade their pcs over time lol. It’s like wanting to play ps5 games on a ps1.

Turning down or off things like ground clutter and spell effects/density should massively improve performance.
And render distance as well.
Some of those zones have too much going on during a fight or in the background.
Wow can get bottlenecked on the UI thread if you have a lot of addons or some are misbehaving.
The other thing wow gets stuck on is memory latency/bandwidth, and a lot of pre-built PCs will cheap out on ram and/or not configure it properly, which hurts performance in general, but will disproportionally affect wow (at least on non-x3d platforms). One of the things about how Apple does mac, is that they don’t cheap out on memory in the same way, and it’s configured correctly out of the box.
I kinda miss when Dalaran would sometimes look like it was a Spyro 2 level.

But it’s still the same base engine it’s never been replaced, just added to. It’s like starting with a small lego house and then adding floors and wings, but everything still branches back to that original structure underneath. That’s one of the reasons so many things go wrong during patches sometimes. Unless Blizzard completely remade the game, there’s no way to get rid of all the legacy code buried under the upgrades.

I have a yo pc, it is a solid piece of machinery. + A superior internet connection.
Yet, the performance in raids blows. I don’t see what I am doing sometimes.
Was doing mythic rik today, constantly getting mc’d, cuz I was not seeing anything at all.
A live service can be tricky sure, but this is beyond stupidity at this point.

Now you’ve got me thinking which one…
Vortex Pinnacle always reminded me of Cloud Spires, and I always play the Aquaria Towers music when I get into a Throne of the Tides run.
Just curious. What are your specs and what resolution do you run at (base not upscale)?
I used to Hearth to Dalaran and go make tea as a way to cope

I have a Ryzen 7 3700x 8 core, Radeon Rx 6700 XT, 48gb upgraded ram because why not lol.
1920x1080 resolution at 240hz. Pointless to upscale at that resolution imo.
Yes, but they can continue to upgrade and replace parts. Like a pc, they can replace ram, graphics cards, storage, etc.
As long as they don’t tweak the original formula too much, they can continue for years to come.
