Did you RP walk, and occasionally run to keep up?
Did you do the stutter run every couple steps, with a stop to let them keep up?
Did you bounce around all over the place in between running forward?
Which escort quest do you remember best?
For me, the most memorable was the mechanical chicken in the Hinterlands, because there was a spot it went past that could be loaded with mobs in addition to the escort spawned mobs, and at level for the zone that was a lot more mobs than one lonely little Holy priest could deal with.
And I rolled Night Elves heavily as Alliance because of the flip, so bouncing around was far more common. (I don’t even remember the RP walk keybind for as little as I used it. I redid the autorun keybind because I used that as much as possible.)

I remember a mechanical chicken escort, but in…Feralas? With Yeti or something? For some reason that comes to mind.
Also, escorting someone to Ratchet I think. That one drove me nuts.

Immediately thought of the RFD escort quest.

Did the /follow command work on NPCs in vanilla? I can’t remember.
Yep, and the third was in Tanaris with all the crocs and buzzards and trolls.
Not to my recollection, but I’ve been wrong before and will be wrong again.
Defias traitor for the Alliance. As a horde, I would wait til he’s close to the Deadmine’s entrance and then kill him. It was fun to watch him as he would attack everything that moved.

I used to walk round them in circles. The worst ones were where they ran even if you were engaged in combat, so I’d try to get them hit first.

Nope, never has, still doesn’t.
Corp in Redridge… ugh, he was so slow and on P servers he back tracked so much in those dynamical spawn zones it was insane.

BRD escape escort. Not much we could do… He went and aggroed everything
For other escort quests, I would do lots of jumping around and circling with my mouse. Also, even though I know it’s not in the game… I always try to /follow the NPC just hoping it would work …
Yes, I’m nuts.

I’d walk at the rate of the NPC.
There is a special place reserved in hell for NPCs that walk faster than my walking speed, but slower than my running speed.
Also for the Defias Traitor, who goes on about how scared he is and then wants to fight everything in a 5 mile radius once he gets to Moonbrook.

There was also a robot gorilla quest in Un’Goro Crater.
I spammed A and D while holding down right click and making circles around the escortee.

This for me. At one point I had that instance memorized due to running low level alts through it.
Occasionally the escort got bugged. i think mobs got stuck on terrain sometimes.
God Jailbreak was such a pain at times. But doing it for the first time and not really knowing what was going to happen at the end of it was cool.
