What was blizzard thinking when building both Eversong woods and ghostlands? Why didn’t they build these two zones on the main map but on a separate map entirely?
Not sure if trolling, but they’re not?
If you look at a map of the Eastern Kingdoms, they sit at the top of the continent. The only zone up there that has its own separate map is Isle of Quel’danas pretty much.
Same reason why they haven’t added the zones to Easter Kingdom yet. They would have to redo the northern Lordaeron area.
I recently completed the BE heritage quest, and my mind is blown that they still haven’t added flying to those zones yet. I’m already dreading the Draenei heritage quests.
They were added to the new expansion because back then, they didn’t have the tech to rebuild EK and Kalimdor.
Of course not. They’d have to rebuild the zones entirely.
It was content for a different expansion and therefor needed to be sectioned off so people who did not own the expansion could not go there.
It was not a great idea for the long term, but they probably didn’t think about the eventuality that expansions would get rolled into the base game when they did it.
They did try to fuse the ghostlands onto the eastern kingdoms map around cataclysm, but a lot of landmass needed to be created because the pieces don’t fit together perfectly, so they dropped it to save time. You can see evidence of their efforts if you fly under the invisible barrier next to Stratholme and head north for a while.
There’s a way to get around the barrier?!
It’s not that difficult, tbh.
Blood elf and draenei zones are on the azeroth map but from a technical standpoint the zones are instanced in outlands, that’s why there’s a loading screen and that’s why you can’t fly there.
Don’t really care either way. You can’t fly while you’re leveling there and there’s little to no point in going back when you can. I’d rather they work on new stuff than updating obsolete content.
Where did I say it was difficult? I just didn’t know it existed, because I never attempted it.
Eversong Woods and Ghostlands are on the BC server. Quel’thalas is a unused zone on the main server. It’s hard to get to it due the invisible wall.
Add it on the todo list for the next scheduled cataclysm.
They were thinking: buy my expansion
I don’t see why they’d have to rebuild the zones, but it doesn’t matter, because they’ve had 16 years to do it.
The belf and Draenei starters zones are actually in the Outlands.
Not lore wise, technically.
They didn’t do this for the Cata zones though? It seems like that would have been a good opportunity to open it up, when they were introducing flying everywhere.
They would have to completely redo silvermoon.
It’s technically on the outland map and not azeroth. I know that sounds weird but yeah it’s on the same plane program wise as outland.
It’s a lotttttt of work to rebuild those on the same map. That’s why they put it off.
