I’ve done the siege hundreds of times. I just finished a siege almost completely solo because it’s already tired content that no one does unless it’s the weekly. It took over 20 minutes by myself. I still don’t have this toy. It should not be this rare. After reading all the demoralizing comments on Wowhead I know I’m not alone. =( Please improve this droprate, even a little. I have never come to complain on the forums about a droprate before, but this feels so unnecessarily brutal.
I agree.
I got super lucky and got it literally the second time. I had no idea how lucky I was until just reading your post now lol. Thanks for this. I felt a visceral sensation of relief now knowing that I will never suffer as you have in this regard!
Right there with you. One time this week there were only 3 of us that did the siege. If they dont up the drop rate, at least shard the event so there are more of us doing it.
if talking about this toy for the mount you don’t need it just get a healer or find the hidden area in the lava that don’t do damage
I’m in the same boat as you, and I’ve done easily over 400 sieges to try and get it. It just feels awful there isn’t something more you can do other than mindlessly plug ahead.
Blizzard can and should increase the drop rate.
I already have the mount. I want the toy to have it.
It’s pretty unbelievable how terrible they made the drop rate on this toy. It’s the toy equivalent to the Sha of Anger mount… back before Blizzard buffed the Sha of Anger mount drop going into this expansion. Based on the comments it’s seriously looking like someone misplaced a decimal and turned a 1% drop rate into a 0.1% drop rate.
I saw the Blizzard recently fixed the drop rate for the mount on the Zaralek rare. I think this drop rate is worse than that thing’s was. It really should be adjusted.
It feels like it should be a 1-3% drop chance like most other toys but it’s possibly something like .3%. Overall just a design fail from Blizzard considering you can get it simply by AFKing and not participating. It should be a drop chance from Inferna at 3-5% or something like that.
The deeper and farther into the lava you swim the less damage it does…
With the insanely low drop rate, a lot of people try for multiple attempts per siege, which eats up more time even if you’re afk for most of it.
There’s also the knowledge that if you don’t get it while Dragonflight is current, the time it takes to farm it will shoot up another order of magnitude. Already on some servers the event never has people push, and on others it’ll be just 1 or 2 people doing it, which means that if someone has something else they want to do in WoW in their next 20 min, they’ll need to jump in to assist. (Improves a lot during the weeks where siege is the weekly).
It’s just a lot more time consuming than the typical rare mob drop for a far tinier drop rate. Since wowhead doesn’t automatically track these kind of drop rates either, it took a while for the anecdotal comment section to pile up enough to realize this thing really was some insanely low fraction of a percent.
I honestly wish I had never started pursuing this toy. I know it’s sunk cost fallacy, but at the same time, it’ll feel pretty crappy to go through this many hundreds of attempts and end it by giving up.
It’s a handy toy. A pity it doesn’t work in Aberrus.
Yea the drop rate on this particular toy is abysmal. Most people won’t get it until at least 300-400 attempts if not more.
For the mount, if you have a hunter (let’s be real, we all do), turtle up and hop into the lava. Unless you’re just after the toy for the sake of completion.
Yes,this well help on getting the snail mount if and only if you can get it.
I still don’t get why this isn’t a drop chance off Inferna the Bound. At least this would force people to participate. Make it a 2-3% drop chance or something instead of something you can AFK through with a .1% drop chance.
They should change how this toy is acquired. It’s just a design fail all around and an outlier compared to how most collectibles are attained.
It really is an absurd design-fail outlier. Not sure if Blizzard will pay any attention though. I know they changed the drop rate of that mount drop recently in Zaralek caverns that was also an absurd outlier, but mount drops just get way more attention than toy drops.
They only reacted to Cobalt Shalewing drop rate after people posted about it on the community council forums. If someone could make a post about this toy there it would help, I think.
Would greatly appreciate any visibility on this topic.
Yeah it was this thread. Maybe tagging that OP will get some help here.
There was an older thread about the Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming it looks like from a search: Everlast Horn of Lavaswimming - #10 by Mirasol-mannoroth
The community council person there got it without even knowing what it was, so doubt they’ll make their own thread in the community council forum sadly. They mention a higher chance being reported on wowhead on the first drop of the week, but with the time that’s passed and the additional comments now on wowhead, I now believe those wowhead comments were just anecdotal moments of luck and not indicative of how the drop rate really works. Just a few people who happened to get lucky on their first attempts in the week and posted about it.
If there was a boosted chance for the first in the week, it’d be pretty crazy that I’ve gotten something like 200 attempts in on “first tries of the week” across alts and still don’t have it, and I think many others are in the same camp. It seems to be just an incredibly tiny chance regardless of which attempt you’re on in the week. Though there was theorizing about whether there might be some “daily” lockout per character, I kind of doubt that’s the case too (though no one’s reported getting it on a character on later attempts on the same day of that character - I think partly it’s just that people get spooked so until they know for sure, they’ll not repeat attempts on the same alt if they have an alt who hasn’t attempted that day).
The thing that’s slightly more irritating about the current situation is that sitting in the background is the knowledge that if you DON’T get this thing during Dragonflight, even the pitifully tiny chance at getting it now will drop several orders of magnitude because of severe lack of participation minimizing the number of sieges that get complete, requiring more active participation rather than afk’ing and switching (which still takes time due to the need to monitor for quick alts switching) and there will be fewer server shards in general.
