Ever play WoW with a controller?

You ever try the add on to play WoW with a controller? Just wondering your experience as it’s a lot of work to setup if it’s not a good experience lol.

I haven’t done much high content with it but it is amazing.

Relaxing and kind of carefree with immersion add on as well.

I’m experimenting with ranged classes now as it seems much better than when I tried it in bfa.

The major thing is establishing what modifiers you want to emulate the following:

  • control and shift key modifiers ( left trigger and left button)
  • tab target button
  • interact with target button (loot and dialogue with npcs).

Immersion add in really helps too along with the console port addon.

closest thing was the old Belkin Nostromo n52te, from 2008-2010. I only used it because the laptop i played from at that time had such a lousy built-in keyboard, and i didn’t have room in the laptop bag for a full-sized keyboard

My brother still has this, and it works. He has wrist problems, so he used this when he played back in BC.

On topic: I had a rogue in my Vanilla guild that used a controller during Onyxia/MC farm.

I just recently set it up for my fury warrior. Tbh, if you practice it enough it will be ez pa. Worst part is remembering the bindings. Using a controller for moving and skills works great. Targeting is an issue. I’m literally tab targeting the entire time. Havent figured out if theres a better way. I’ve ran heroic dungeons with controller on my fury warrior.

No idea how you heal with a controller.

Not sure how tanking would be mainly trying to taunt stray mobs.

Biggest hurdle will be interrupting mobs because of targeting. Other than that, it works great. Just gotta get used to the bindings.

I used consoleport

It would probably work well for something like FrostDK, Havok, or maybe BM hunter.
Tabbing between targets sounds like a nightmare though.

I use ConsolePort, play with PS4 controller, and I love it.
Really hate keyboard and mouse setup bc I work at home and want to break that sitting straight posture and be chill when playing games.
Go to CP’s discord server; they have lots of tips on how to set up, healing, targeting, etc.

I raided at the heroic level and regularly parsed blues/purples using a Steam controller in BFA. Obviously thats not amazing but its probably “above average.” They are discontinued now but I’m sure you could still buy one. You could achieve similar results with an XBox Elite controller.

You have a couple issues you need to think about:

  • Can all my major abilities be hit without removing thumbs from movement. If you can, you can function.

  • Do I have any abilities I have to aim with a ground target (like Volley, Wild Spirits, Resonating Arrow, Traps, heroic leap, door of shadows). This is more difficult to do on a controller because it becomes a 3 step process (activate, aim, fire), so those binds need to be chosen very carefully and likely can’t be done with full movement since aiming is going to eat a joystick temporarily. I would not want to be playing tar trap + flare lego, for example.

The Steam controller having double touch pads makes things like aiming ground target aoe or rapidly spinning your camera to turn much easier, but XBox Elite has it’s own advantage in that technically more buttons can be hit without removing your thumbs from sticks if you are willing to use the bottom taps.

Bindings accomplished with a combination of the Steam Big Picture Mode bindings and ConsolePort wow addon.

Re: other mentions on targeting, there is a mode in ConsolePort that smart targetscans in the direction you are facing.
