I was bored and was working on legion artifact quests. I have to go into nighthold and get shards. I only get 4 shards from the 10 bosses. I normally don’t care because I enjoy running old content, but when you spend all this time working on a long questline you kind of want to just finish it and get rewards. There’s no reason this should take 3 weeks to a month to finish for content that is 3 xpacs ago.

Ok, no questline and that appearance can be a random drop off guldan with the same drop chance as something like Tusks. Does 3 weeks (actually 3 resets which could be done in a span of 8 days mon, tues, tues) seem so bad now?
It’s an appearance you have forever and it has a guaranteed source that’s a win in anyone’s book.
Not gonna lie, while I wouldn’t mind something like an increased drop rate for people going after Balance of Power on their alts, this isn’t really that big of a deal. I get you want it now and all that, but it’s a quest reward, and takes minimal effort. You’ll be fine.
They did increase the drop chance for the first part. I’m also pretty sure you can run it on multiple difficulties. It’s been a long time since I did it but one of my guildies was doing it recently and I think he said he was able to do that.
No. You can run the raid on multiple difficulties, but balance of power quest items are a 1/boss weekly lockout. In other words, if he kills all the bosses on heroic, if he goes in on normal mode, no boss will drop anything because the loot lock is specific to the raid, not the actual difficulty.
Random drops (or timegating as you call it) have existed in this game since November 23rd, 2004. Go into Molten Core and get the bindings needed to build Thunderfury. I have one of them and have been playing since then.

It’s trivial because at least you don’t need a full raid group to do it in that month’s time.
I’m surprised you’re not complaining about the rep required to buy things from quartermasters.
I have 1 part of the bindings and I’ve done it every week since it’s been soloable. I get some things are meant to be hard to get. I’ve farmed the insane title and alot of hard things to get in the game but this shouldn’t be something that takes a month.
Balance of Power was originally designed to take up a good portion of an expansion.
I want to get the legion arsenal of light weapons and they are effectively timegated because of how Argus rare rotations work
