Etiquette question

I’ve always assumed it’s rude to use the repair vendor on someone’s mount if you don’t know the person/have permission/etc. Or is it just expected? Does the mount owner get any benefit from it, perhaps? Mostly I’m assuming it is rude/pushy and I don’t do it, although it would be convenient sometimes! Just wondering what the consensus is. (It’s not like it’s hard to find a repair vendor, obviously!)

The way I see it, its just convenience. If you don’t make it, tough luck, go walk another few seconds to another or fly to a vendor that is obviously not off a vendor mount. Or, you know, buy your own. Ever since Shadowlands, making gold has been VERY plentiful, anyone should be able to earn the Mammoth Vendor at LEAST. The Yak though might take a bit of work but well within anyone’s efforts.

Of course, I don’t have any reason to use someone else’s vendor mount, I have one myself. Though if I didn’t, I imagine I’d just try to take advantage of it being there before the player disappears. Players shouldn’t expect you to stay still and hold up their time. Then again, it would help to also ask first and maybe they’d stick around for you.

I dont think its rude at all if someone uses my yak for mog or repairs. I try to pay attention when I am done or wait a few seconds before I go somewhere else in case someones using it though, because if they are about tonapply a nice mog I dont wanna make em lose it.

Idk if people repair off my mount.

What’s lame is when people expect you and your yak to stick around while they mog.

It only bothers me when its the yak and they stand there for 15 minutes lol.
I feel rude shutting it down onthem.
So now I carry the Attire Rearranger to drop for quick mog swaps if I get something new and players are around.
Gives them 2 minutes to get it done, lol

It’s definitely expected. I dont think they mind

I have tipped them a few times for like “abusing” there mount when making some crafting orders cause they were right next to the crafting station lol. Tipped him like 500g lol.

I dont think they get anything out of it although they definitely should catch a small percentage of repairs that people are doing on there mounts. Blizzard will never go for it tho

No, the player doesn’t get anything for it and no, it’s not rude.

Go ahead and use the vendors but don’t be surprised if the vendor moves away or disappears suddenly.

If i move the yak and someone whispers me that they were mogging, I’ll stop and wait most of the time. But if they don’t say anything to me, I just dismount and go about my business.

I have no problem chilling around if people ask. But ye, if someone doesn’t say anything, then I’m off when I’m off. I’ve just had a few times where I get whispered angrily after the fact.

I do not think that you should be worried about this being rude in any way. The mount owner is oblivious to it, receiving no drawback or benefit. Many folks will sit on their yak or brutosaur while they’re queued or afk specifically to allow people to use them.

I use other people’s vendor/ xmog mounts all the time.
It doesn’t have any impact on the user of the mount so how would it matter?
All there is is another character standing beside you.
As others have mentioned, if the mount user runs away/logs out oh well, tough luck for me. I would never ask someone to remain in place while I use the vendors.

I couldn’t care less. If I’m on my mount and you wanna repair or transmog, go ahead. If I move though, it’s not on me, I have places to be.

Never have a problem with others using the vendors. If I see you next to me I will wait until you move away. No benefit to me, reason I bought the mount was so I could have a place to sell things in the field. Only reason I am using said mount it to… vendor junk. Or the transmog guy.

I bought my repair mount specifically for people near me or in my party/raid to repair from. It’s also nice to be able to sell my trash items, but mostly got it for repairs. I personally don’t think it is rude for someone to repair when I pull it out - I actually expect it.

I remember in SL… cringe … That people used the Dino mount for the AH since Crapribos had no AH or anything. It was kinda cool people and even I would send the people parked there gold just for chilling for us. I don’t think people care. You could send a ty though if you want to.

Thanks so much everyone! Nice to know it’s ok (but “buyer beware”, in terms of them moving - which I assumed anyway). Bit sad the mount owner doesn’t get a teeny commission, although I am sure that could get dicey fast with bots and such. This came up a long time back when I was doing 40,000 Firelands runs to get the dragon mount, lol. More than once I was like, ugh, MUST I go to (whatever the near place was, I forget) to sell some of this crap… anyway, thank you all very much. Now I know. :innocent:

No it’s not rude. Most people with repairs, auctions, or transmog expect people to use it. What people consider rude is getting messaged by someone complaining that they moved or dismounted. As long as you don’t complain to the person who moved, they won’t care.

It’s not rude. I don’t even know you’re doing it most the time.

With that said though, don’t be surprised if I suddenly dismount and go do other things because:

  1. I don’t even know you’re doing it
  2. I’m not beholden to offering you a service you didn’t ask for.

If they got their proper mount for it up, it’s fair game.
