Eternal Flame

I’m a bit late to the game on this topic, but I did just recently come back regular after being off for medical reasons.

WTAF did you guys do to Eternal Flame? It now heals for far less than word of glory, and the over time portion doesn’t even bring it close.

Isn’t the point of taking a hero talent to make an ability better? Is there a way for me to wipe that out of my hero talents, and just use Word of Glory instead?

It was better before, so why the change? Is this working as intended? A blue response would be greatly appreciated.

It heals plenty as Holy. No idea about Ret because I use Templar instead but Word of Glory heals a lot less than you remember. Imagine how much more health we have this xpac. If you want to wipe it out of your hero talents, play Templar like every other Ret.

I keep seeing more and more rets playing Herald, because it’s a lot more fun to play. Frankly, Templar feels like the klunky, do nothing in the meantime mechanics of TBC. It’s not fun for someone who does a lot of off-healing in group situations.

As for the actual topic that the thread is about, WoG does about 25% more healing than EF, and that’s including EF HoT portion.

Well I checked the numbers on myself as Ret. (This is the base amount displayed in the tooltip)

Templar WoG
Any 1,000,000

HotS EF
Ally 696,062 + 244,719 = 940,781
Self +35% = 1,270,054
Plus all the bonuses from talent interactions like Dawnlight and Aurora/Divine Purpose.

I understand preferring one playstyle over the other but you already have the option to choose the playstyle that doesn’t use EF.

Not sure where you are seeing WoG heal 25% more than EF, it shows the opposite for me.

I thought Templar was cool for a while in season one with the random “wtf was that” one-shots. But outside of that, it didn’t feel like it did much else.

Herald is at least consistent with the playstyle.

Go play with the practice dummies and come back with some numbers. It changes considerably.

I used pvp dummies in full pvp gear, and EF heals for 550k up front, with ticks of about 20k non-crit on the pvp dummy, 760k with ticks of about 25k on myself.

WoG healed for between 770k to 1.1M (non crit, don’t know what the variable is) on myself, which isn’t a game-changer, but 1.2 million consistently on the healing dummy.

Keep in mind, these tests were done at full health.

I do a lot of off-healing on allies during pvp. It’s a significant difference.

As for tooltips, my tooltip says that EF does 767 and 233 standing around. If actively in pvp combat, it says 992 and 303. Comparatively, Wog says 1.1M, and 1.4 million for pvp. Tooltips are rarely accurate, sadly.

Yes, the numbers change in an actual fight, but they change proportionately from the base. WoG doesn’t heal ret the way it used to but it’s still useful. I ran a key yesterday as ret, cast it 18 times and it was 4th on my overall healing behind three passive abilities.

I know it’s different in pvp and I understand being frustrated that EF doesn’t heal like you remember WoG healing, but WoG doesn’t heal like that anymore either. If you want the upfront heal, it’s there as Templar. The EF hot is really nice as Holy in pve, I track it on frames.

I only picked this paladin up again recently, I haven’t tried pvp yet and ret is my offspec so I’ll leave it to other people to add further thoughts.

There’s aura nerf for ret pallies esp in off healing in PVP, it’s not something a PVE only player will notice.

You can upkeep ppl in PVE with WOG/EF in PVE but in PVP you might as well take away the button.

I know it’s not terrific in pvp, but keep in mind that the initial issue here is that if we have to wait for a HoT to finish the heal, shouldn’t the total be more than the base ability itself would normally do? A hero Talent should be an improvement, not noticeably worse. PVP healing nerfs considered, the talent defeats all purpose.

What you just said makes too much sense for the Forums

If memory serves, Eternal flame didn’t get the mana cost increase that wog did, so EF costs 250k, and wog costs 375k mana

Crippling a heal to make it cost less is definitely not worth a hero talent lol.
