Essences, why not account wide?

Has the dev team gave us a logical reason for them not being account wide?

I personally see no reason to force you to regrind the essences every time you make a new character. Especially the older ones. Maybe I missed something, but what are they doing with things like CLF? Time gating some essences doesn’t make much sense to me when you have to regrind them over and over again whenever you want to make a new toon. If it isn’t account wide then let players grind out things like CLF without having to wait for an instance reset.

IMO, those are the kind of things that make this game not alt friendly. Different genre of game but in path there is something called lab to acquire ascendancy and you have to find plaques in order to do the lab runs. Once you do it on your first character you don’t have to find the plaques in order to run the lab anymore.

What kind of damage does it do to the game? There is a ton of DAMAGING things they have implemented in the game , but this one to me seems pretty reasonable to me. At least make the current essences account wide.

Because player play time would be down.

Making another thread won’t make getting them account wide more likely.

I don’t think we get reasons for most things, good or bad.

they’re nerfing it, hoping that it will no longer be bis for most classes.

maybe, maybe not. currently, for myself, i am not willing to invest that much time into my alts. i simply just play another game. if essences were boa, i would spend my time actually playing them.

hello classic wow.

Personally, I think you should have to regrind them on each character. This is a role-playing game at heart (thus the RPG part of MMORPG), and the character - not the player - should be the focus. It is the unique entity within the World of Warcraft.

I also don’t think that reputations should be account-wide either, but that’s a different topic.

The guy is right. I havent boosted a new toon because I have no motivation to grind Naz Mecha and BGs again. It was aids the first three times. So Im playing PoE instead of spending money and time on wow. Im not the only one either. Essences are a great system of choice and customization but they are too grindy to get r3’s.

I use to believe in the earlier epansions of WoW that there was a good reason to distinguish mains from alts and to make people feel relevant for having a Main that they focused on verses a person with many alts.

After playing for 13+ years I have changed my mind completely. The CONSISTENT player base has run out of a lot of original things to do in WoW and it’s coming down to exploring alts and having fun to that regards. Perhaps the ONLY thing I can see worth keeping more restricted is professions, but even that’s a iffy argument in my mind.

Hell, I would have thought that AT LEAST if you got rank 4 for an essence it would unlock on all characters. That’d be ok imo… but they have’t even done that, and that would be a LOT of work.

So yea, I don’t know. Some Developer at blizzard has a stick up their butt.

See I think this is what Blizzard thinks… but I’m pretty sure this was a grind too far for most of us. I just haven’t bothered with essences. So they were demotivational, and probably led to reduced overall playtime.

because of player engagement.

Trueeee. I forgot about that. I got CE and soon as metamorph came out played that a lot. But about that time for the new patch, and am on my fourth alt right now. Thinking to myself, wow this is stupid and unnecessary. And that’s coming from a player that doesn’t mind grinding things. If it makes sense to do so and is implemented in the correct way. There is nothing fun about it. It’s a chore and i think that’s why I dislike it so much.

GGG impresses me with the level of communication they have between player base and themselves. I honestly believe that’s why that game has flourished. The development team is very connected to the community.

If i remember correctly wow was once like that when Greg Street was in charge.

Edit: not saying it’s ion’s fault. I have my own conspiracy theories.

The reason is the same for why Gear isn’t account bound.

Player power has never been account bound. 8.3 is going to nerf the requirements of essences you get in 8.2 content only and is introducing new essences with 8.3 content.

You show up every thread to present the biggest strawman in the business thanks for making a stop by here.

Edit: Essence should be account bound. I’ve done the grind 4 times, I would theoretically be one of the people who got ‘punished’ because I’d already done the content and I still want them.

LETS GO BLIZZARD

I’ve done it 4 times and it’s been fun each time, because it involves playing a game I enjoy with toons I enjoy.

I don’t see how anyone could honestly do daily world quests and enjoy it.

But here’s the kicker, make rank 3 account bound and rank 4 per character and that way everyone wins.

You can “”“”“have fun”“”“” doing world quests while the rest of the vast, overwhelming majority get to not do boring content that only a very rare few find enjoyable.

Gear grinding is way more accessible than essence grinding. And are two different things. Again I don’t mind a grind if it makes sense. Gear grinding makes sense to me. Essence grinding over and over again does not.

Also there will be essences now that are still going to be bis, or essences that are most certainly going to be used. Biggest one is purification protocol. In cutting edge guilds you will be required to grind this trait out.

Luckily you can buy those parts from AH, but i feel bad for players that might have to spend a ton of gold on it in a lower pop realm if they don’t want to re-grind it out multiple times. I paid for the parts to get r3 on my main awhile back. it was pretty expensive. if i remember correctly over 300k. And that’s on area-52.

Who said anything about daily WQs ?

Or or or. Make Rank 3 per character, and some Rank 4 Account bound IF you first unlock Rank 3 on that toon.

Good thing you get essences from Dungeons, Raids and PvP then.

It’s literally the same content.

But all 4 of my characters are healers, which means their best essences are from Ankoan reputation, the follower levels and getting Conq Cap.

So ?

Good thing alts can heal content just fine with “not the best essence” then.
