Unfortunately my guild fell apart on horde side - and I can’t find a guild that needs my class and that raids when I’m available.
“Luckily” I have this max level character - but I just can’t stomach having to level up all those essences again ON TOP of regearing and building my rep up again.
The re-gearing and rep grinds are standard in WoW and RPGs. I wouldn’t mind doing them again, but the essences are just too much.
Shoot me a message when essences become account wide and I’ll come back to WoW. <3
yeah not feeling the essences on each and every toon I like to play.It needs to go back to basic level up,dungeon gear up,heroic dungeon gear up and finally raid for gear;so not doing it and just coming when I feel like for a month for pet battles and such.
For real. I dont know why we NEED an expansion long resource grind that gets thrown away in the next expansion.
Its just another great addition to modern wow that is now a “staple that we need” or else “players won’t have enough to do”… which is completely false when you can look back at tbc or wotlk… you know when wow peaked.
But thats what happens when you remove all value and meaning from gear and just throw it at you every play session like its a confetti cannon.
Right. I see the argument of adding "replayability to the game - but when the thing in question is the key thing keeping people from playing their alts - I question how effective it really is in the broader picture.
Right now I don’t even bother with the essences since I tank on most of my alts. The essences are nice for tanking - but in no way as necessary when compared to the healer/dps ones.
If I HAD to heal or dps on my alts - I wouldn’t even bother.
Even in this case - anyone I play with isn’t getting as much as they could from my character, even though I may play the class adequately.
I don’t really like the idea of setting a threshold of level 3 essences on one toon unlocking it for all other toons - but maybe that’s part of what would make it a good compromise.
I do my dailies/weeklies on my mage here. That’s fine. I’ve gotten a number of essences to r3 and I have another handful that are 1-2 weeks away from r3.
I have 9 characters at 120. While I don’t mean to play them all in end game content (and wouldn’t suggest that I should be able to) it’d be nice to have one or two other specs that I could play in m+ and normal/heroic raiding.
But after I do my dailies on my mage I log in to one of these alts, look at their Heart level and the 3+ week grind for rank 3 essences, and log off.
Last night I thought “Man, I miss healing. Maybe I’ll work on catching up my Druid. Wonder what their best essences are…” I find out that I need the Exalted essences for both Mechagon and Nazjatar. It was very disheartening.
Essences were supposed to be a fix regarding how much of a slog the Heart of Azeroth is. People rejoiced and when they finally got their hands on it agreed that it did make the game better and the necklace much more appreciative of putting time and effort into it.
Then Blizzard made it character specific and it’s now turned into a greater slog. Yay!
Sadly - this is on point. I appreciate the effort into the system. I really enjoy the choices and diversity it adds to the game. But they missed the mark on “replayability”, unless their goal was to apply a decreasing influence to it.
Everyone is different, I’ll give you that. That’s the whine though, its for progression. 19 guilds worldwide have beat mythic. If you’re not progressing, it’s not mandatory…a fools errand.
Correct - this is a HUGE component in modern MMO’s.
Losing XP when you died used to be one back when WoW started - and WoW went in a different direction.
WoW can still go in a different direction to stay up to date with current MMO setups.
I like seeing both sides - but I can’t come up with a good argument for why forcing a main/alt mentality is good for the game over a more flexible system.
I was sad when my Legion artifacts got depowered in that Cutscene in Silthilus. When the same thing inevitably happens again to the HoA, I’m going to be dancing with joy and looking for the nearest hammer I can smash what’s left of the stupid thing with to smitherines!
Eh maybe to some people. In FF14 1 character is all you need, so I wouldn’t say it’s all that huge in modern MMOs
If you want multiple mains you’re gonna have to put in the time. Especially if you need all those “mains” to engage in high level end game content. If they aren’t doing that then R2-3 is really needed for WQs and LFR
I don’t even really like them that much. It’s just something to do to add more damage and a vanity thing when you care about how it looks. Nothing about the system excites me honestly.
Right but having to put in time to gain rep, new profession levels, new consumables, and an all new gear set is already quite substantial.
Adding the essences on top of all of this is the issue. Especially when we’ve already done it on one character, it’s not particular fun or exciting content, and a bunch of it is time-gated.
That’s a HUGE ADDITIONAL layer to what goes into getting another character up to snuff with current content.
Yeah I think Blizzard is just incredibly stubborn and doesn’t give a crud about your alts. They want you to spend more time on those alts to up the MAU’s. I feel like a child saying that but more and more it seems that they only design things in a way that you spend more time, convenience be damned.
