Many of the requirements for rank 2 & 3 essences are extremely timegated or difficult/tedious to obtain. They would perhaps be mildly acceptable if they were account wide, but unfortunately that is not the case. You need to do absolutely everything all over again on every alt you play if you want the essences on an alt.
Imagine if flying was not an account wide achievement, but instead you had to earn pathfinder on every character if you wanted to fly on that character. It’s an absolutely ridiculous idea, and yet when it comes to essences, that is exactly what you are making us do.
This may be the most alt unfriendly concept you have ever implemented in your game, and it needs to be changed. Either make obtaining the essences easier, or make the requirements account wide.
Given how rank 4 is suppose to be the longest to unlock since its purely cosmetic, maybe that should come with the added bonus of making that essence unlock account wide at max rank? Just an idea to make it a little better.
It sounds to me like you’re advocating that alts technically not exist. It sure seems like you prefer an extreme where everything you do on a main character is replicated to alt characters. Maybe that 450 TF shield you got on your shaman shows up in your prot warrior’s inbox? Where’s the line?
I don’t see this as a problem since most character development is for that character and that character alone (honor, rep, level, gear). I think I’d agree with a unified account currency (gold, TW badges, War Resources, etc.) before opening up the essences.
Honestly what I would have rather been the case is that essences were much harder to get then are are currently but be account wide. Probably in the minority here, but that would interest me.
Something more difficult that has a larger impact is my shindig.
The only Essence Requirements I have an issue with myself are the ones for WorldVein Resonance and the 2 Reputation Essences at Rank 4. Every other Essence and Rank is on a pretty deterministic path, accomplish set task->Get Reward, while these ones pretty much require you to get lucky on a RNG roll.
My mage has their bis essences at rank 2 and will get rank 3 of one of them late next week too. It would actually be rank 3 in two of them next week but I slacked some.
There is nothing unbelievable about that statement.
My meds haven’t kicked in yet, I’m having a difficult time believing anything that smells of manure. I also have a hard time just overlooking that bull manure.

Many of you posting are missing the point. The point is that this patch is extremely unfriendly towards alts. The fact that you are getting your bis or close to your bis essence on your main is one thing, but if you want to play more then 1 character, you have a very long grind in front of you.
Here are some of the requirements for essences:
Revered or exalted with the new factions
50,000 honor (this is not shared account-wide, it is per character)
Grinding ~ 15+ islands then doing a number of mission table misison that take multiple days and you have to wait for each one to complete before doing the next
Mythic+ cache essence, which takes a mimimum of 2 weeks if you do a 15+ key, 3+ weeks if you do a lower key
And that is only some of the examples. Doing some of these things once is fine, but if you play 2 or 3 characters? Or if you are someone who simply enjoys playing alts? Some of these things take weeks to accomplish, and if you have limited playtime, it’s just not possible to play those alts.
Having to grind your neck to unlock essence slots is one thing. But adding additional grinds that take even longer to get those essences is just unnecessary.
