The way this quest is setup is unconscionable. If you’re going to make a quest chain that can’t be completed without a quest reward from a previous quest, make that quest immediately available after turning in the previous quest. I know it’s just one more step in the chain on this incomplete quest chain, but if this busted quest prevents me from completing the Loremaster achievement I’ve been working on for weeks I’m going to be so unhappy.

No, this is a known issue and it has been for years. There are two quests called Essence of Eranikus, quest 3373 and 3374. The first one is the one you’re referencing. The second one requires the quest reward trinket from the first one in order to be completed. However the second quest doesn’t automatically come up when you turn in the first one. It’s from a random guy in swamp of sorrows that you have to complete other quests to unlock. With LFG and multiple mid tier leveling zones in Classic I completed the first one long before I ever started questing in swamp of sorrows. Since I had no indication that the quest continued beyond a vague one line npc comment when you complete the first one, I disposed of the trinket as I had no use for it, or so I thought. Now it’s been too long to recover the item from the item restoration service, therefore I’m never going to be able to complete that quest.
It’s just a breadcrumb quest that leads you to Winterspring, so it’s not the end of the world. But for someone that’s spent weeks grinding every quest I can find off that map it’s irritating knowing I’ll never ever be able to do this quest on this toon. I’m a gd completionist. I mean I’ll get over it/let it go eventually, but it’s still too fresh mate lol.
