ESO Vs GW2, what game should I play?

Haven’t been enjoying wow lately and I was thinking about picking up either GW2 or ESO. Not sure which one to go for tho. Anyone able to give out some advice ?

GW2 is definitely interesting, I dug into that for a bit, but it didn’t really gel with me.

POE is what has it’s claws into me now.

I’m not Familiar with ESO-- But I do also play GW2. The character customization in the game is amazing and you really don’t need to buy expacs with all the the things there is to do in the game. I haven’t purchased the first expac and still working on my Guardian though achievements and such.

Professions also are pretty neat. You can learn them all at one time but can only have to two active at any given time.

Gathering isn’t a profession-- but there is some kink to it. You have to have the right tools in your inventory bags in order to collect them. But other than this, You can gather anything in game.

The Level scaling is pretty on point. Blizzard should have taken notes from them on how to implement it. Rather than scaling up, it scales you down to the zone level so that way World events and repeatable content even in the low lvl zones are still relevant and you still earn XP Such. but-- it doesn’t scale down your gear. Just your base stats. So you don’t feel a huge loss in Power Progression.

The Armor Inks are a real hoot also-- You can, once you learn an Ink Color, change the color of your armor even down to the accents.

Their PvP far batter that WoW’s, IMHO. Especially WPvP, which is WvW. They pit Realms up against eachother. The best single player PvP is a foot race. Like Mario Cart on crack.

Cons-- There’s no real end game content. And it’s nearly impossible to get into guilds. While they just introduced Riding and riding Master with the last Xpac, there’s still no flying in the game.

Gold is far harder to come by and the game play while fast, is very simplistic with a very in depth Talents systems for both PvP and PvE.

A huge Pro-- the different Builds on each class. There are tons of possibilities…

Graphic wise GW2 looks great. I’m more biased towards GW2 though since i’ve been playing it off and on since the first one. The leveling is pretty cool you level down to which area you are in and you get experience. I really like the weapon options and skills. But the only thing is they dont have a real trinity system (tank, healer, dps) like Wow. ESO is good too.

FF14.

I’ve wanted to try getting back into GW2 since I haven’t played it since it launched. Plus now that theres several xpacks I need to pick up, I dont feel like dropping the dosh.

ESO (Elder Scrolls in general) has absolutely incredible lore, I can vouch for them on that point. I love Warcraft and all, but… it’s really no contest. Don’t know much about Guild Wars but ESO has an incredibly interesting backdrop for you to play with, at least.

ESO- Strong story, strong solo play. Good overall PvE group content. PvP content is… iffy at best.

GW2- Different leveling style, good solo play, good PvP play. Most of PvE content is world bosses and rotations through events.

Personally, I stuck with ESO for longer, and might go back to it.

Have you considered FFXIV?

I don’t know about those two but Hearthstone is pretty fun. Also GTA V and Tomb Raider.

First off, Elder Scrolls Online. Its good stuff. Final Fantasy is also pretty good to be honest, though I know it was not on your list.

Second, this is the World of Warcraft General Discussion. Questions like this belong in the “Games, Gaming, and Hardware” forums found below.

I vote WoW

Neither, both are bad. There’s a reason why ESO became one of the fastest mmos to go from p2p to b2p. None of those reason have anything to do with it being a good game.

i have a lot of story content to catch up on gw2. i also need to get the beetle mount. i hear good things from eso, though. never played that.

It depends, what are you looking for exactly? They are pretty different from each other. Personally, I prefer GW2. But if you want something a little more familiar (at least as far as leveling goes) then ESO is probably the way to go for you since it has normal questing. GW2 leveling is very different from WoW leveling. GW2 is free to try the base game, why don’t you just give it a go? And if ESO is free these days maybe try that too.

i actually already have both games haha! played both a bit too

I’ve never been able to get into ESO so I can’t really comment on it but I can confirm GW2 is a great game. The leveling is solid, and the game play is as good or better than WoW.

I gotta warn you though GW2 is a very different game once you hit max level. There is raiding and a metric buttload of content but it doesn’t work the same as WoW. There is no progression. Once you hit max level and get all ascended gear that’s it. All your progression is story and cosmetic based. Both the xpacs and the episodic content patches (which you have to buy seperately unless you log in when they are current) are all just story progression.

The real meat of the content is in the achievemet system which isn’t really obvious. You have to dig a bit to find what you want to do but at the same time there is more there to do than there is in all of WoW and it’s all relevant and always will be. The stuff added years ago is just as relevant today as the stuff added last week.

Pros- Great game, more stuff to do than you could ever hope to accomplish, fun story and leveling.

Cons- No progression, your character will never get stronger when you max your level and gear. Finding stuff to do means digging through story or achievement menus.

Well as far as end game goes there are dungeons, fractals and raids. The dungeons that are currently in game are all that will ever be there because fractals basically replaced dungeons for 5 man content. Then as the other poster mentioned, there is achievement hunting and collections. Not to mention all the story you have to go through if you get the xpacs (which I do recommend as Elite specs are pretty important and mounts are bloody amazing in GW2). As far as pvp is concerned, there is sPvP and of course my favorite WvW which is large scale pvp battles.

ESO has a compelling storyline and beautiful open world. Classes are far too homogenized for my tastes, but leveling is actually fun.

GW2 has a much stronger endgame, but the leveling is a chore and the feel is very “cartooney”

Personaly I play skyrim when bored with wow, I learn there there is an epidemic of projectiles injuries to the knees. Leading cause of being a town guard

Personally I dabbled in ESO and GW2 but while both were fun, the only other MMO that’s ever sank it’s claws into me from a lore and story perspective has been SWL (Secret World Legends). The setting and story are great and mature (the first time a quest-giver I was talking to dropped an F bomb I nearly fell out of my seat lol ), and the voice-acting, music and immersion is great. Another plus is the fact that ‘armor’ is purely cosmetic and while you choose a ‘class’ when you make your character through earning in-game currency you can unlock any magic or weapons you like.
