IDK if i changed something in the keybinding, or if the escape key didn’t work in classic like it does in retail, but it doesn’t work at all. like it does nothing, and it’s driving me crazy. i’ve tried resetting all key bindings, and i’ve looked for a place to bind it. noting. how do i get it to work as normal again.

You keybound it, likely when trying to cancel setting something.
You’ll need to click on the Main Menu icon (the PC) on the menu bar, go into Key Bindings, Interface Panel and bind ESC back tp “Toggle Game Menu”, that should fix it, I just tried it to check.

Cool, I never figured why Blizzard let you re-bind ESC given it’s used as the normal ‘get out of Dodge’ button for many standard Windows UI operations within the game which get overridden by binding it, leading to what you found.
