The goal is to no longer strengthen our enemies. Do we really want to make China strong when they are building a massive army during peacetime? And they’re creating servitude nations that are greatly in debt to them, which is something we don’t want happening to us.
I’m fine having less spending money if we take care of the national debt and decrease our dependence on other nations because there will be a WW3 soon; and we need to be prepared.

Trump has so far only used tariffs as a bargaining chip, not for the country, rather for personal gain. He essentially extorts other countries into giving him $$ for better trade deals. The Saudis already gave 2 bil in crypto and Qatar gave Trump a 400 billion $ Boeing.
Trump isn’t some savant and tariffs aren’t some genius economic move no one else thought of. This isn’t growing pains for greener days ahead, there is no endgame. Just market manipulation, and bigger payouts for trump.

With that being said, he’s right about America being the largest economy in the world and people want to do business here. We have the leverage and we should use it. At the same time we have to create our own critical supply lines in case war breaks out with China because they’re doing it. Specifically with chips, which we largely transported to South Korea in the 80s.
