I’d like to start by saying this is not a new problem. It has been a recurring issue for a few years and there have been many things I have tried in that time to address this without success. I’ve largely accepted my fate with this problem however, I’d like to take more active raid roles in this expansion and cannot ignore it anymore.
System Specs:
CPU - i5-9600K
GPU - GeForce RTX 3070
Motherboard - Z390 Arous Elite
Ram: 32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance
Router: Nighthawk AC1900
Average Latency: 15-40 (home), 15-40 (world)
Average Internet Speeds: 300-500mbps
Corrective Actions:
I have followed all actions listed on the tech support page including UI resets, driver updates, “network optimizations”, etc.
Port forwarding
Reinstalling WoW
Confirming router and computer hardware health
Reviewing feedback in other threads listing the same error code
Resetting IP, flushing DNS
Changing ISPs (as I have moved, I have had different ISPs but the issue is constant)
Changing Routers (I have updated routers but the issue is constant)
This issue does not impact other games or programs so I’m less inclined to believe this is a problem with my network connection. It may be exacerbated by the new expansion (I can see more posts recently) but has been a problem over multiple expansions. While I do enjoy watching netflix or listening to music while I play, I was disconnected about 30 minutes ago just flying in the Azure span with no other programs open. I feel as though there is no trigger for this and that I’ve exhausted all avenues to fix it so I’m writing now in hopes someone here has had a similar issue and found a way around it. Looking forward to additional feedback.
let’s look at a winmtr. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/27780 run it for 10-15 minutes and post. You can play while it runs to see if you can have it going while you disconnect, if thats feasible. How often is this happening?
It consistently happens multiple times per day with varying frequency. I would say it happens more often when running dungeons but also happens often in the overworld. It doesn’t look like I can post it since there are “links” in the .txt file
if you highlight the whole thing and hit the </> “preformatted text” button at the top of the reply box it should let you post it. Or you can use pastebin and just give the letters at the end of the link.
that looks good. about the only other thing you could try in order to make sure it isn’t related to your connection would be trying an alternate connection like a phone tether to see if it still happens, or using a VPN to see if it still happens. If either of those fix it then you’ll know it’s something specific to your internet. If neither helps then it has to be something specific to your computer. I am not an expert on routers but if you use any sort of unusual router or have the settings customized to control traffic that might be a possibility, or if it happens after the same period of time every time sometimes routers can be resetting every x numbers of minutes, i forget what that setting is called.
I’m going to try to mess around with things I suppose. I’ll also try to capture a DC on the program to see if it’s more telling. My concern here is that let’s say it is something with my computer. How do you even begin to troubleshoot something like that?
it isn’t super common for that to be the case, but for example it could be related to your UI but it sounds like you’ve done a UI reset multiple times. Could be a failing driver or hardware of some kind, but if you’re hardwired that isn’t super common either and it should show up in your winmtr. so idk to be honest.
Edit 28Dec2022: I want to provide an update and what I believe is the final answer to this problem. As originally stated, I had been having this issue for a very a long time. Running WinMTR did give me some insight into what was going on. I’ve captured several DC’s and circle back to the same problem. There is a specific node/gateway that my internet goes through between me and blizzard that will occasionally experience that 1% packet loss. To me, a brief 1% loss doesn’t seem to me like it should be a problem but it is enough to kick me off the game. It’s the same node every time so there is no doubt that this is the source of the problem.
In an attempt to resolve this I got in touch with my ISP and explained the situation. They informed me that there was no way for them to reroute my connection or otherwise assist me here. Instead, I’ve turned to a VPN when I play and I have not experienced a DC since. I hope others can benefit from this experience as well.
