Error code: BLZBNTAGT000008FC

When I tried to log in this evening, the battle.net launcher tried downloading the latest update. Despite it trying countless times over about 30 minutes, it couldn’t fetch the encoding tables.

I took to the interwebs and started down the list, restarting between each thing I tried. I disabled antivirus and my firewall. I shut down and reset my network one component at a time.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battle.net launcher. I uninstalled it using the windows tool, manually deleted the remaining folder, restarted, tried reinstalling it and got an error. I didn’t make note of the error code.

A post I found online mentioned they had to reinstall WoW completely to get everything fixed. I copied my WTF and AddOns folders to the desktop and uninstalled WoW. This time I didn’t delete the folder left behind, but eventually deleted everything in it except the Screenshots folder trying to fix this error.

Every time I try to reinstall either the battle.net launcher or Wow, it gets to “updating battle.net agent”, fails, and gives this error. I’ve tried doing one first, then the other. I’ve tried leaving my PC shut down for about 30 minutes. I’ve tried restarting between attempts. I’ve tried resetting the WMI repository. I actually tried that a second time, but command prompt wouldn’t do it a second time.

Any ideas?

Sometimes you have to uninstall them if it’s a third-party app and not just Windows Defender.

Hello Vortamock,

If the launcher is still hanging at “updating battle.net agent” and you’ve gone through most of the fixes then that can point to a system issue. Let’s go ahead and reset the Windows Management System.

Once done go ahead and test the launcher install again and then WOW.

Thanks for the replies! Ok, I uninstalled my antivirus completely, reset the WMI per the linked instructions, restarted, re-downloaded the battle.net launcher setup program, disabled the firewall, ran the setup program and got the same result. It gets to “updating battle.net agent”, fails, and spits out the error code: BLZBNTAGT000008FC

Out of curiosity, I re-downloaded the WoW setup program and tried running that. It does the same thing. The only difference is the picture on the side of the error code box. Literally everything else looks an acts identically.

Also, to clarify, I deleted the battle.net & WoW setup programs I downloaded last night before re-downloading them again just now.

Still no luck. D’=

Vortamock,

Let’s go ahead and try a new user admin account on your computer.
If it does not work please submit a support ticket with your system files and steps already done so that we can take a deeper look at what may be causing the install errors.

Thanks for the reply Zayssie,

I gave that a try and got the same result. I just submitted a support ticket.

Estou com o mesmo problema e não encontro em lugar nenhum a resposta!
