Error ACCESS VIOLATION memory cannot be read, nonstop on fully updated high end pc

I have done everything from trying all different graphics options, reinstalling windows and all drivers/disabling xmp and trying other sticks of rams/other xmp settings such as II and tweaked, to swapping out other parts and passing memtest and karhu ram tests.

I can not get this error to stop happening in wow no matter what I do. It’s at the point where I may just drop the game until patches come out or this issue gets more attention. theres a lot more people dealing with this than ever before with 0 answers.

All other games and benchmarks such as all 3d mark ones run flawlessly at max settings even with ray tracing maxxed. I can record and stream/game at the same time on this pc with no heat or fps issues or any crashes whatsoever

It happens with no addons even if after a fresh reinstall of the game. I have double checked and made sure all addons are updated.

All my drivers are updated. I have deleted and reinstalled everything fresh including windows on two seperate hard drives, one of them being brand new, and two mobo’s.

My bios is updated as well. I tried rolling it back and the same thing happened either way and am currently on the newest one.

I have tried intel’s “new” performance settings and extreme, as well as asus’s extreme oc setting that usually works and is what I use my pc on successfully, but it doesnt work with wow and get the most stability out of intels performance mode and am using that now.

I’ve tried intel xtu’s lower voltage to no avail.

Can tech support/anyone help me look at my dxdiag or something to see whats going on or share whatever else you think the solution might be? I’m convinced it’s 100% on blizzards end seeing all the other people asking for help about the same issue with no solution and have tried everything but I’ve seen a few people ask for and dive into those to get more info on the specific error.

My parts are a rtx 4090/14900ks/either 6600 corsair dominator platinum or 8200 corsair dominator titanium/samsung 99 something pro ssd/Apex encore mobo with a custom loop cooling loop and 14 fans

What’s upsetting is that not one peep from support concerning this issue. I had ZERO issues until last friday. Download a small update…ever since then is crash after crash after crash. It’s not the XMP cause it wasn’t even enabled. I just enables it for testing and still the same amount of crashes.

This is the ONLY game where I’m having this issue so it’s clearly something on their end. Can’t some at least acknowledge that they’re aware of the issue?

this has been happening to me too. can’t even play for 5 minutes before a crash happens sometimes it crashes upon logon. Its a fresh windows 11 install, all drivers are up to date. this just started like last night. its been playing fine until september 2nd. then crash crash crash.

Can you screenshot or write out the address or “referenced memory”, just to see if we’re all having the same reference memory issue. I’ll write mine down the next time it crashes on me. Mine was like a 0xffffffffffffff reference memory IIRC

not even logged in for 30 seconds, boom crash. my reference is 0xa5f2 or 0x000000000000a5f2. The memory could not be read. have turned off all the previous things recommended, reinstalled game, reset interface, turned off PBO in Bios, I have a 7800x3d. there should be no reason for these crashes. literally started happening 24 hours ago. played fine through beta, and early access.

my dxdiag:

Sometimes i can play for an hour, sometimes 6 hours. But generally been getting crashes a lot ever since i came back for PrePatch.
However, today it has been much worse. Had 5+ crashes today already. All of them happened while i was in Hallowfall’s weekly lamp questing area. Probably not related to Hallowfall itself, just because there is a lot of action going on at once there.
Crashes almost always happen when i am taking off or landing on a flying mount.

I am not sure this is making a difference just yet, as I have only been testing it for about 30 minutes now, which is much longer since I was crashing every time I got into combat, like after 5 minutes of game-play. But I had an old version of reshade still installed that I uninstalled and it seems to have stopped the crashes for now. again like I said I am still testing to be sure as it has only been 30 minutes but that’s as long as I have gotten the last few days without a crash.

just wanted to come back and say that my crashes have been effectively eliminated since uninstalling reshade from my wow directory. So I think needless to say make sure that you have no game overlays or any fps monitoring software hooking into the wow.exe binary as it seems that wow.exe is very volatile. Hope this helps someone else who is experiencing this as well.

Same here, played fine up until today for me. For me, wow.exe takes about 6 GB of RAM on startup and just goes up and up until it crashes after a few minutes.

Having the same problem. Was having intermittent crashes over the past week or so but I usually could play for hours and hours. Now I’m lucky to make it 5 minutes before the game crashes. Updated BIOS, adjusted my settings, tried reinstalling the game + addons, still just crashing constantly.

I’m still waiting on a reply from support on my ticket or here but so far they keep sending me to the forums where everyone is getting 0 answers lol or a pc shop which I have already done and they told me there are 0 issues with my pc.

I cant tell if blizzard is tired of replying to this stuff/they know there is nothing they can do and a percentage of the playerbase is just suppose to stop playing for a year or so while high end parts are accomodated/ they dont care. It’s extremely concerning that every ticket I submit is met with the same response and there is no help coming from the places they suggested.

EaseUS and Razer Cortex are throwing errors. I also see some Windows functions reporting errors.

If you are experiencing this and are using an out-of-date BIOS version, I recommend updating.

I noticed razer cortex errors in my dxdiag but after uninstalling completely I still see it, is the dxdiag not updating? Seems like the same report from 2-3 days ago. I’ve resaved it 4 times lol. I’ve made sure it isnt on my computer nor is the folder.

Bios is updated

I was able to solve my issues by uninstalling an old version of reshade I still had installed in the wow directory. Error ACCESS VIOLATION memory cannot be read, nonstop on fully updated high end pc - #8 by Kaimberex-sargeras

I appreciate the potential solution but I’ve never used reshade.

I cleared my logs and and dxdiag isnt showing any errors, what should I try next? ive already visited a pc shop and they’ve told me my pc is fine. I’ve updated my bios and am using a brand new 14900ks that I replaced after the microcode drama as well. Still crashing wether I use intels performance mode/extreme mode/xmp off 1 2 or tweaked.

Please help lol. This is wild.

If you’re using an Intel i9-13900K or higher you probably need to download the Intel tuning utility and turn down the voltages etc. You can thank Intel for providing bad info about the processor and causing that issue.

There’s also a sticky about it.

This needs an AMD update
