Yes. Absolutely.
I’d say another thing they nailed in Vanilla/Era is just the importance of things like items and professions.
Pots, food, grenades, flasks, first aid… all so useful in this iteration of the game. They create a robust economy for the players to participate in and make money that is also very important.
In FFXIV and Retail, I didn’t care about professions at all. Engineering is garbage in retail and the main reason I grinded professions in FFXIV was to repair my gear at my leisure or make some housing item whenever a new one came out. That’s about it.
Absolutely.
I’m still finding out about little trinkets and belts etc with powerful cool downs than professions can make which keep world PvP fun and interesting.
I love the BoP crafted Epics which can easily last you through Blackwing Lair
And I love for people like me who aren’t huge into professions, I can pick up something like mining/herb/skinning or do something like tailoring/enchanting, and still make gold be be part of the economy.
Quick story I can’t help but tell right now. On my server back in the day, there was a level 59 Priest who hung out in Stormwind all day and made clothes for people. He never really left town … if he did it was to stroll down to Goldshire for a while.
I asked him one day … “Why have you never hit 60?”
He said “The services I provide don’t require me to.”
I don’t know why he’s stuck in my mind for all these years, but that’s the thing. Even today, playing Classic Era or SoM etc … core memories are built because the world is alive.
I have no memories of BFA or Shadowlands … I barely remember what happened … because there’s no interactions that really connect those memory making brain cells together.
that lvl 59 priest understood WoW better than any of us
Had a warrior in my guild who was still in mostly all greens heading into TBC, even though he did tons of dungeon runs with us.
I inspected him a few days before TBC was released and said “bro … why did you never get any gear?”
He said “Lol I dunno … you guys always seemed to care more so I passed on the rolls.”
Another example of someone who understood the game better than us …
Right, we didn’t have the best setup the first time around when people were basicly not very skilled at games compared to now and still beat it /shrug. I have no issue not having perfect gear and trying something to test my skill and not gear power.
