EQ Had a Hardcore Server in like...2000

This was on the Firiona Vie server.

No matter how high you leveled on this pvp server, if you died, you reset with no money, no spells, no nothing at level 1 in your starter town. EQ pvp servers…everyone can attack everyone.

There was one reward, and it was for the highest level character at the end of one month. The reward was a weapon named after the winning character.

I made it to level 12 like twice. The second time, I was in a bandit group in West Karana. After surviving a rather tough pull, the paladin (in our group) healed himself, then killed every one of us while our health was low.

I don’t remember who won that event…but that sure was a free-for-all.

Yes , also note the OG blizz makers based WOW off of EQ.

Kizdean Gix ate my lunch on more than one occasion.

ive been spouting the same sentiment because i find the irony very interesting. wow became popular by taking everquest and removing the hardcore stuff and making it more casual friendly, such as death punishment.
now some 23 years later, its becoming popular again by reintroducing it.

but i see hardcore for what it really is. its just a gamemode made for streamers and YT content. thats all it is. im not a big fan of adding a ton of different gamemodes everytime one of these content ideas catches on, and all at the expense of PvP and MMO elements.

Wish my aussie ping was good enough to play UO’s Siege Perilous server back in the day. That would have been heaven.

it’s really not… people were playing HC well before the streamers showed up
streamers always show up after something gets organically popular on its own. thats their job basically :expressionless:

Only it wasn’t a pvp server it was an RP server with elements that helped RP people.

I think your remebering a different thing.

Okay. :+1:

When FV first started, it was really an “event” server…and when the event was over, it became an RP server.

I really like the Fabled Mobs anniversary event. Once a year, powered up versions of iconic named/rare monsters would spawn and could drop an equally powered up version of their unique loot. Leveling a rogue with the Fabled Serrated Bone Dirk was great times!

It would be like Hogger turning into a final dungeon boss or that Razorfen Kraul pig being able to drop a ‘Fabled Corpsemaker’.

Well yeah, you gotta get creative when you have a 16-17 years old game with no real developer that can create any new content with the same quality.

So seasonal/hype fillers like HC are great things for a change of flavor for a while. Specially when the current version of classic is a crap like WOTLK.

This is the biggest copium I’ve been seeing lately. HC wow has been popular for a long time now. Streamers are finally jumping on the bandwagon, and the copers out there now have the opportunity to say “iT’s BeCaUsE oF tHe StReAmErS”. Too funny.
