EQ Did "Vendoring" Items Better

EQ had vendors not unlike WoW where they would have a standard set of wares. The thing with EQ was, if you sold tradeable items to the vendor, that vendor would then list those items for sale.

Imagine working on a new character and working on some profession like tailoring…then finding like 100+ wool cloth on a vendor because someone just sold it…or finding a nice piece of gear that was just vendored.

I used to check vendors in high traffic areas for stuff people sold.

WoW should do the same. Maybe it’s a bad idea…maybe not.

It would be filed with gray items. Most people know usually most stuff that is white quality or above sells on the ah.

Except for the modernity of the things, what WoW has that is unlike the same thing in EQ ?
They even copied the idea of running after your body. Something no other top MMO ever felt the need to copy …

You could drop items in said world, that others could pick up, within Norrath (EQ).
You can’t trust the player populace.

Did EQ have an auction house?

The downside to that (for me) is that I’d be inclined to check every single vendor that I ran past “in case” so I’d have to make/get an addon that you set a “alert if seen” list and just click every vendor as I was near it. The addon would scan and play a sound or show a popup if the vendor had something in the list. I certainly wouldn’t manually look through a vendors inventory

For me, I think, that would make the world feel more active. There’d be a point to vendors besides just being my personal money-slaves.

Considering most gear that has been equipped (and most that drops) is actually soulbound, I highly doubt you’d be getting any good gear from vendors. That and most people I know have a vendor mount and I know at least I tend to sell things to that vendor over any other NPC.

This could be a performance nightmare. Every vendor has to keep a list of items which are kept in memory. Thinking of how many vendors WOW has, this could definitely impact server performance.

bazzar. you made yourself a vendor. Also the tunnel i cant remember the name of

They still do, but it’s call the Bazaar. The thing I don’t like about it is that a player character is needed to setup a trader.

While in trader mode you can’t do anything else on that account. It used to be that you had to stay logged in the whole time too, but they made offline mode so you can at least log out of the game and still be able to sell items.

The game is still alive, but they only have around 60k players vs 600k-ish back when WoW launched. Their 28th expansion unlocked a couple of days ago.

I remember accidently selling my Short Sword of Ykesha to the Vendor in North Karana. Omg, that was a bad day.

If their inventory is full your items poof, which sucks in your case.:pensive:

This could be really cool.

I wonder how it would affect server performance.

It’d be fun to check obscure vendors just to see if someone passed by with a random item.

How much did the vendor want for it back?

Or you had something valuable in a no rent bag.

I’d be putting cool stuff randomly on vendors around the world.

Level 10 goes to vendor for food and clear bag space… sees Invincible’s Reins

I remember it was a lot, more than I had! I returned a few times to see if it was still there and eventually it was gone.

It was the Aviak, I think the vendor was called, up in the tree house.

I spent a lot of time in north Karana looking for the Pegasus for my Mage friend.

So long ago now.
