I know when TBC drops there will be 2 trainings (lvl 30/60). If you have the epic mount now you do not need to buy the training when pre-patch drops. My question is does the epic mount have to be usable? Can I have a friend buy a Cat mount it sit in my bags and then use it once pre patch hits or will I have to buy the training for it?
That is the rumor.
I have not seen if anyone has “tested” it yet on the beta, but it is assumed if someone gives you other races mount it will be usable.
I know it will be usable, its the fact if I spend 900g on the mount will I have to spend gold on training come pre-patch or not.
I think I would hold off buying the mount until after pre patch. Since the mount would not be bound to you, it probably wouldn’t count as you actually having it since its never been equipped, and since you can’t equip it, you would still have to spend the gold on the epic riding before you could equip it once you hit 60. Additionally, I think with the prepach, the overall cost of the mount and epic training are a bit cheaper so its probably worth waiting to buy an epic mount anyway.
really im trying to save gold but dont want a stupid Mechanostrider…stupid gnome mounts
After pre-patch, mounts are BoP.
Yeah but his point stands still, its either spend 900g now or 1800g at prepatch if I dont want the gnome mount.
I didn’t recall that, but the problem is if he can’t ride the mount, he probably can’t be given the skill since you can’t get the skill tell 60, which means even if he has the mount and it switches to BOP, it most likely wont give him the expert riding skill since you have to be 60 for that, and it unlikely to retroactively add that even if he has a mount when he hits 60. So it will cost him 800 gold or so more to buy the mount early.
If you just don’t want the Mechanostrider, get exalted with another faction so you can buy a different mount.

Yeah, I’m not sure how it will work, and I won’t spend the gold in WoW Classic to copy over to beta and find out
Epic mounts in WoW Classic are BoE, so you can trade them before using them, however something possibly noteworthy is that they require Riding (150).
The TBC Classic Beta riding trainer in Elwynn Forest trains Apprentice Riding, Requires: Level 30, for 29g 75s, and Journeyman Riding: Requires: Level 60, Riding (75) for 510g.
My human’s Frostsaber in Beta does not say that it requires exalted rep with Darnassus, but does say Requires Riding (150). So, some food for thought, at least.
EDIT:
Not sure if the Riding (75) being displayed for level 60 riding is a bug.
Yeah in BC you don’t need to be exalted to ride the other faction mounts. I want to know if I have a epic mount frostsaber or horse in my bag will it auto give me the Riding without having to buy it in pre-patch, or will I have to buy it just so I can use the epic mount.

will it auto give me the Riding without having to buy it
While I am not going to test this myself, I know how I would answer that question, if I asked it to myself.
Yeah, was hoping someone had the answer. Appreciate the discussion.

You can’t get an expert skill until you purchase the basic, so the Riding 75 should be required for Riding 150, unless I am misreading your comment.
Good to know about not needing exalted to buy the other mounts, eliminates one of the reasons to grind rep, though I really would have thought the vendor wouldn’t sell them if you weren’t exalted, wish I had access to beta to actually look at stuff.
End result options though
If you are 60 and have the fast mount bound to you, you will get expert riding
If you are 60 and have the fast mount, but its not bound to you, there is a reasonable chance you wont get expert riding, and will still need to buy that, it all comes down to how the update scripts run, however the mount will likely become bound to you.
If you are not 60 and you have the fast mount, while the mount will likely become bound to you, since you wont be qualified for expert riding, it is extremely unlikely that you get expert riding retroactively when you hit 60, so would need to buy it.
Unfortunately there is no real way to test the second scenario until the update, and then its to late, and it just doesn’t make sense to gamble on it in my opinion.

Not sure about that. I just tried to get a saber on my human and they didn’t like the cut of my jib.
Still doing some testing
Yep, exalted it must be.

i hate the mechanostrider but i also dont want to spend another 800g on a mount i could otherwise get for 90 so im waiting for prepatch before i get my tiger, unless i manage to get the pvp tiger
Didn’t they make a total of 20% discount for rep at some point?

I was looking on my level 60 human with 150 riding, in the TBC Beta. I’m not sure what you’re reading in my comment, but I level 60 riding was showing Riding (75) beside it, while level 30 riding was not showing any number. I actually submitted a bug-report, so we’ll see.

Good to know about not needing exalted to buy the other mounts
That’s not what I meant to imply. My human is exalted with Darnassus and has an epic frost saber mount. However, on the TBC Beta, when hovering over the mount, it did not state exalted with Darnassus as a requirement.
yes pvp and reputation iirc 10% off for each
If you don’t have epic riding skill, use the mount now. It will give you credit for epic riding, and then prepatch the mount cost goes way down, so you could buy a swift frostsaber for 80 gold if exalted. Since you’re going to have to spend money on the mount you want anyway, just get the riding skill now. You aren’t selling a mechanostrider for a profit.
No, the PvP rank goes away. I’m pretty sure there was a point where you got an extra 10% for just rep (revered or exalted.) I just don’t recall when it hit.
