The whole horizontal progression sounds great but I don’t know if it will work long term. I think they should add a limit to how many times an epic item can be repaired until they lose stats and become rare. It would stop deteriorating once it got to rare but you would need to do the raid again if you want all the stats back.
It would make end game content feel more impactful while helping keep gear stats low since all end game items have to be replaced at some point.
I haven’t played wow since WOTLK so I don’t know if they tried something like this over the years.

Now this is an interesting idea.

This is a terrible idea. The whole point of horizontal progression is your progression does not get invalidated. Having epic items deteriorate would bring back the full reset feel of retail WoW and I don’t want to see that repeated here.

I dont see how anyone can pretend to know whether this is necessary lol.
this is conjecture on conjecture

They would only deteriorate if you played often and used them. That way in 5 years when new stuff comes out, they don’t have to keep increasing the stats to make you want to try the new raid.
I wouldn’t like that, it’s wow forever, I want to keep my items and progress forever

The entire point is you dont outgrow the gear you like…
This just sounds awful =)

OK but with your way, that gear you like with be trash in 5 years after they have released 20 raid sets each with a tiny stat increase that adds up to a lot. Same as every other time.

Could always add in a vendor that uses mystical powers to revive your Epic item. Cha-ching, another gold sync.

That’s a good idea, inflation is going to be an issue

This sounds like a good solution but they would have to avoid invalidating new gear
This idea is extremely bad. It would make people stop playing the game in fear that they will lose their items. World PvP? Dungeons? That’s just a waste of durability, and a good recipe for raid logging simulator.
Players hate retail because their accomplishments are invalidated. This is why we should create a version of classic that invalidates people’s accomplishments. Brilliant minds at work on the forums.

ethereal items from d2
no repairing
So promote raid logging even more huh? Yeah that’s gonna be a hard pass bud.
I thought the level 20 mount threads were bad, this has topped those as the worst idea ever.
And your idea, it would make peoples gear trash within 5 hours, probably less. It promotes just not playing the game, especially for tanks.

Umm..so the idea here is to really force raid logging?
the raid will restore it. so you run raid to do that and…done.
This idea fixes an issue not even in the game. One classic issue has been…getting people to log in after raid night. Weapons degradation…would have this mandatory, not optional.
Classic raid logs, heavily. Raid done player done. Maybe they HP/mark farm in bg’s. Or pick flowers and rocks.
This crap works in zelda since not on boss fights you can farm mobs with stick, literally. Also, zelda ends. You beat the final boss, enjoy you movie and have a nice day. this is wow…“ganon” because of RNG is 2 months if nice to get all loot you need.
No that’s like saying people will stop playing if things cost gold. That doesn’t make any sense
No, that’s not even remotely close. That kind of FOMO should stay well away from WoW.

If they want to nail horizontal progression, then ALL gear should be upgradable, including leveling gear, to become equivalent to the latest raid.
Have a set from Molten Core that’s perfect for your build and don’t want to replace it with Naxx or AQ stuff? Just upgrade it.
Really like turning into a Viper with Wailing Caverns’, ‘of the Fang,’ set? Just upgrade it.
