"Epic dungeons"

Name is derived from epic battlegrounds due to scale. Please leave your ideas and opinions.

For me personally I love raiding. Dungeons are great but I am not a huge mythic plus person. Time limits, skip mechanics, and wall rezzing are not my thing. I know plenty of people that feel this way as well. Although with its overall success mplus is obviously not going anywhere.

What do you guys think if along with mythic plus and raiding they ALSO implemented 2-3 epic dungeons per expansion. These dungeons took a much longer time to complete (around the time of your current challenging raid difficulty.) was 5 or maybe even 10 man, had no time limit, no keystones, and was REALLY HARD. Like more than a +10. Essentially a 5 man mythic raid in terms of damage difficulty and mechanics.

As I said these dungeons would be much larger than your average current day linear af A-B dungeons. Have sprawling corridors, huge rooms, hidden spaces, dungeon quests, etc. similar to BRD. I am not talking about a 6 hr dungeon, maybe 2-3 hours just like a hard raid with some wipes today.

Due to difficulty and time required these dungeons would also drop competitive loot with possibly interesting effects like Ironfoe. The dungeon was designed with care and has interesting and memorable locations and encounters, instead of the railroad track speed clear we run now. At a difficulty that’s designed for you to make friends and get in voice etc. Instead of completing in time the real achievement is completing it at all.

I loved Return to Karazhan, so this has my vote.

Yeah, Return to Karazhan was my favorite dungeon in a long time. 100% would be down for them to make more.

I love this idea

I can’t stand Mythic+ and the community surrounding it this xpac, which is sad because I really love running dungeons.

So somthing like this would be amazing

Isn’t mechagon supposed to be the Kara equivalent this expansion? If so, that’s something to look forward to.

I approve. My favorite dungeon in classic was UBRS and it used to be a 10-man dungeon. (And I think it was 15-man before that.)

Yeah I’ve had a similar thought. Like what Kara was back in BC.

I don’t mind M+'s. But having more diverse content in the area you’re speaking to would be nice.

I don’t know if blizzard really has the resources to support anything else than what it currently offers… and the new content is lacking in terms of quality game play and difficulty (assaults and warfronts).

They serve a purpose for easy loot to get caught up in ilvl, especially for alts. But I would prefer more difficult content that offers decent loot rather than easy content for the 7th legion items.

are you referring to the pet battle dungeon or? i am not familiar i have not heard of this.

Yes. Mechagon is supposed to be an epic dungeon when first released.

New zone and dungeon coming in 8.2.

oh okay i see, sounds cool! i haven’t read or looked up much about 8.2 whatsoever. But is it actually going to be the level of size, difficulty, and loot that I am talking about? Also it will probably have a keystone making the base dungeon irrelevant.

Yesss please, this kind of thing is my jam! Give me a modern Mara, ST, BRD… hell, just give me level 120 unabridged, remastered versions of those dungeons! Can you imagine how incredible BRD or Mara could look if remade by the current art team!?

The timer kills any potential fun to be had in M+. Yeah yeah it’s not required, whatever – don’t tell me you don’t get at least a little bummed out when you miss the timer by a few seconds despite your group trying its hardest to battle with whatever needlessly frustrating affixes are up that particular week. Sometimes you miss the timer due to things completely out of your control, too – just last night I missed a Kings’ Rest by just a minute or so because I was the highest DPS and had to go answer the door in the middle of the run.

The remake idea would be super great but only if they actually create it and don’t do TW scaling, TW scaling is so terrible especially for blood. 7 percent haste lul. And yeah it sucks, even when you have just a couple deaths if you pull the wrong pack or two you can miss it and I hate that. I missed an 11 waycrest by literally 10 -15 seconds yesterday. I think we only fully wiped once on a bad trash pull. I was mad.

If its anything like return to karazhan then yes.

Yeah I’m talking proper max level remakes. Well that, or just make this new class of epic dungeons such that it’s always scaled to max level (a sort of reverse-timewalking), which could also be interesting. This way, an epic dungeon introduced at level 120 would still be just as challenging next xpac at level 130.

That’s a good idea, since as I said they could only be expected to make 2 or 3 of these per expansion with all the other stuff they have to pump out. As long as the scaling is right I am happy that is my biggest peeve about TW. Every BC or Wrath TW week I REALLY want to do BT or Ulduar but blood just feels so terrible in TW dungeons.

So do you actually want it to be a challenge on the level of mythic raids, where it could take weeks or months to full-clear? Or do you just mean a dungeon that takes longer than a normal dungeon?

Both. But I could see if they made it a LITTLE easier as progressing on a dungeon might kind of stink idk I would have to experience it. but definitely very very hard like more than any 10 or maybe even 15 dungeon. With no affixes btw forgot to mention that. Like I said it is an accomplishment completing the dungeon at all that is why there is no time limit.

Sounds kinda like Stratholme or Scholo back when people would 10-man it despite it being a 5-man dungeon just because it was so difficult (though that wouldn’t be an option for these dungeons).

Mythic raids are not just heroic raids with bigger numbers. Since you specified “no affixes” it sounds like you’re thinking these would just be big, cool dungeons with mobs that hit hard and soak up lots of damage. That sounds like it would wear on peoples’ patience more than it would provide a challenge.

I get where you’re coming from. I’m just not sure how this would actually work and how it could possibly be tuned in a way that would make everyone happy. Not saying it’s a bad idea, it’s just not apparent to me that this is something they could actually pull off.

I think 10 man could be a cool idea but i guess you can 10 man a raid now so it would basically turn it into a raid.
