I still can’t believe they thought China would foot the bill
THAT’S NOT HOW TARRIFFS WORK! My god its so frustrating. This better not affect GTA 6…smh
People blew $90 on this poopy xpac so it probably doesn’t matter.
The Biden administration said Friday that it has finalized tariff hikes on certain Chinese-made products that the president first announced in May.
The tariff rate will go up to 100% on electric vehicles, to 50% on solar cells and to 25% on electrical vehicle batteries, critical minerals, steel, aluminum, face masks and ship-to-shore cranes beginning September 27, according to the US Trade Representative’s Office.
Did you complain then or only when Trump does it?
Did the democrats run on the platform claiming tariffs would solve the grocery bill problem or imply China would pay them?
Except Trump is doing Tariffs all around on Chinese goods and seems to think tariffs will help fix the economy. It will not.
Why would I complain about tariffs on an electric car I have no intent to buy? Biden on the other hand actually knows how they work apparently. Did you think your point was somehow clever when its only on very specific chinese made products and Trump is doing a more shotgun very ignorant approach? lmao dude Leopards gonna eat your face and you will have only yourself to blame if you voted for him…
I know it’s hard to imagine a world where products are made in America, but it can happen. Ultimately, it will be a good thing for Americans to have more American made products.
I’d rather pay more for things if I knew it was helping my countrymen earn a good wage.
This service industry economy is built on a house of cards.
long game? sure
in the meantime (10+ years) we’ll have to deal with incredibly expensive prices on things we just are not presently capable of making here (chips) because of tariffs and the only sensible way to cover the costs is for the importers to pass the expense to the consumer
Don’t misunderstand, we do need to bring manufacturing home.
but don’t try to sell it as saving the average american money.
10 years is a small price to pay. I know it seems like “forever” to a lot of young people, but it’s a drop in the bucket long term.
I’m old enough to remember when Reagan started this off-shoring trend of jobs and I was against it back then. I’m glad that the current US administrations are waking up to the fact that it was a bad idea to enrich our enemies for short term gains.
This is the same logic behind movements such as the new green deal
costs us money now, but the improvement in infrastructure would pay dividends in the future
don’t see republicans jumping on board for that, though. and democrats were honest about upfront costs instead of lies
I think investing in America is a great idea. The Green New Deal, is not the right way to go about it though. It’s akin to the Cash for Clunkers idea to stimulate the auto industry. Nice idea, terrible implementation.
We need to be more pragmatic in our decision making. Invest in fossil fuel technology and nuclear power. Not pipe dreams like windmills and solar panels. Such a huge waste of resources and damaging to the environment.
it was intended to address climate change and energy independence, among others. i think those are very important issues and the deal included proposals that supported funding and manning the programs, including education and job creation.
as far as I can see trump is relying solely the tariffs to solve the problem of imports.
energy independence is huge - but these aren’t really comparable issues. I only mentioned it because it was also an “invest now, results later” concept.
Trump won because people were unhappy that cost of living was too high. He promised, without any plan or evidence, that he would lower cost of living. The programs he plans to implement do nothing for the now, which is what people are mostly upset with and why they voted for him. They are in for a rude awakening when tariffs increases the costs of goods, when social security is reduced, and when their grocery bill doesn’t actually go down.
I think they’re important issues too, but the rest of the world is not going to eschew fossil fuels or nuclear power. We’ll just cripple our economic progress. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for research into alternative energy sources.
Ultimately, I think we need to reduce government influence on these technologies. The best form of green new deal will emerge from the private sector being stimulated by an increase in manufacturing.
I disagree that was the only reason that Trump was elected. I think Trump was elected because of fundamental policy ideas that are more conservative in nature. More protectionist and populist policy.
And what do you call tariffs? That’s government meddling in free trade.
Now I’d agree the only way to get technology back home is for the government to intervene and either incentivize domestic manufacturing or in this case, punish outsourcing, but again, that is the opposite of minimizing government influence.
Most republican voters do not understand they are not the party of small government.
Newsflash, Mexico is not paying for the wall and China is not paying for the tariffs. The American people will.
Government has grown under both political parties. The issue is what’s good for the future of the USA. Leftist policies are trending toward more communistic practices. Curtailing free speech and a porous border harmed the democrats more than anything else.
I agree both parties have grown, and personally I’m okay with it. We need to reign in a lot more markets (especially those that are integral for people to simply survive) and we know for a fact that we can’t rely on the free market to decide what’s best for the American people. They do what’s best for their shareholders, and in this case, it’s outsourcing technology.
However, this is not the case Trump made to the American people during the campaign and all I’m saying is that a lot of people are going to be wondering why things are costing more when he promised the opposite.
And as far as the border goes, we are at 1.6 births per woman. We essentially require easier legal immigration in order to not suffer severe population declines, which is presently decimating eastern countries.
Why are our citizens not having more children? It’s not because of abortions. It’s because it costs too much to have children, with no systems in place to support maternity leave, no support for preschool, etc. etc.
I’m relatively well off and we waited until our 30s to have kids. I can’t imagine being able to afford kids if we made the median household income or below.
For what it’s worth, there are a lot of major problems with the way our economy is sustained. I am not a fan of Wall Street. I hate that American retirements are completely dependent upon investments in 401ks and such. So many people are all in on the system simply out of momentum.
Regarding birthrate. That’s a very deep issue. It gets into socio-economic, education, spiritual, etc. People don’t value family the way they used to. They’d rather have Netflix, Starbucks, iPhones, McMansions, etc. That’s kind of sad, but it’s a result of the rat race.
Many of the problems we have in the US are because of our disposable mentality.
