WoW is awesome. Been playing since 2004 I think. I have a 110 of each class and of all classes and all specs, "Enhancement" is the weakest spec name and has, in my opinion, zero class fantasy.
I mean, see below...
Protection, Arms, Fury - fitting, militaristic, no nonsense, soldier like.
Guardian, Restoration, Feral, Balance - very fitting, one of the best sets of spec names
Discipline, Holy, Shadow - makes perfect sense
Destruction, Demonology, Affliction - dark, sinister and dangerous
Marksman, Beastmastery, Survival - highest marks for class fantasy spec names
Protection, Retribution, Holy - can't argue with this, particularly Retribution
Frost, Arcane, Fire - basic but on point, academic sounding like mages should be
Unholy, Blood, Frost - sinister, unfeeling and unnerving
Assassination, Subtelty, Outlaw - right up there with hunter names
Mistweaver, Brewmaster, Windwalker - come on, excellent
Havoc, Vengeance - brimming with rage, ready to strike, solid
Restoration, Elemental .... Enhancement?
What does that even mean? Enhancement is terrible and has no connection whatsoever to one of the most conceptually striking specs in the game. Think of Ang from Avatar The Last Air Bender. Imagine him being called Enhancement...
They raise their voices and battle and summon torrential rains, the stomp their feet and the earth erupts beneath them, they swing hammer and axe, leaving arcs of lightning in their weapons wake, they extend their hand and lightning arcs from their fingertips to strike their foes. They chill or burn their foes with at will with frost and LAVA and summon canine spirits to aid them in battle.
In my mind this is one of the more fearsome classes from a fantasy (not gameplay) perspective and it has the least imaginative name.
I think the name should be changed and should have been changed long ago.
Does anyone else feel this way?

You make a good point but honestly it would never have occurred to me to be concerned.
They way you speak of enhancement you’re almost making the argument that both dps specs should be called Elemental.
Enhancement is called such because it’s weildint the elements to ENHANCE their abilities (fire, frostbrand, rockbiter, totems in bfa, etc.)

The majority of classes enhance their abilities through their talents. What abilities does a shaman have outside of their elemental abilities? What abilities does a mage have outside of their fire, arcane or ice? What is a Frost DK if not a regular person, enhanced by their Frost abilities? I feel that all classes are regular 'enhanced' people. So Enhancement still doesn't hold much weight as a Spec name and even if that argument holds true (which I honestly and respectfully don't believe it does) it still presents no class 'fantasy'. There is no shamanism, elemental power, combat prowess in the use of Enhancement. If there is, it is far less impactful and effective than all the other spec names listed and still stands as weak.

That's not what I mean exactly. For example, Hunter .. Beastmaster and Marksman .. or Rogue, Subtlety and Outlaw. They do a much better job at explaining different kinds of fantasy based hunters (ranged weapon and beast) and rogues (stealth based combatants) than Elemental and Enhancement do of explaining shaman (elemental based combatants). Elemental works as a fantasy element. Enhancement is generic and uninspired in my opinion.
Bruv, if you were to stop drawing comparisons to other classes for a moment, and think about what I just said about shamans enhancing their attacks with our spells, it means literally that. We cast those spells to enhance our auto-attacks, they are literally imbued into our weapons. The only other class I can think of with something similar would be DKs with runeforging, but even then that’s barely the same thing.
Quoting is clunky bc I’m on mobile but if you go back and read your description of what Enh does, it sounds elemental to me. Hell, Ele almost became the lightning mage on alpha so maybe enh will change its name to ele ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not to mention enhance plays like spammy, flimsy !@# fury warrior. I mained a shaman for YEARS and stopped in legion because of what they did to my traditionally favorite spec in the game.
Bring back MoP enhance (and ret while we're at it)

Really? Restoration is just as lackluster and has to share it with another class in the game that uses it already.

Agreed. I've thought this about the specs for a long time. I'd love to see "Enhancement" and "Restoration" changed to something else similar to how "Combat" rogue was changed to "Outlaw".
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet

So what other name would people reading prefer? I mean, whether you care or not about getting it changed, *if* it were changed, what might sound cooler or more fitting?
Keeping it game-mechanically descriptive would result in names like Melee Shaman, Dual-Wield Shaman, Auto-Attack Shaman, etc.
Moving toward thematic descriptions, excluding the already claimed Elemental Shaman, would result in names like Crusher Shaman, War Shaman, Smasher Shaman, Brawler Shaman, Mauler Shaman, etc.
Would you prefer one of those if it had to be changed? Something else?

Ideas:
Elemental: Fine as is as ur mostly using shocks and surges..or Summoner
Enhancement: Avatar, Sentinel, or hell..could be like Mages/Dks being Frosty and be: Fury Shamans joining in with the warriors..lol
Resto: Wavebringer...Overall Resto is pretty much a "water-mage" for the most part with few abilities on other ends so anything that bases on that would be good. For fun even them having a ability like LoL's Nami's Q would be cool..you see a bunch of water elementals already doing that.

I like Boulderdasher for enhancement.
Elementalist for elemental.
Tidebringer for resto.

War Shaman does have a nice ring to it. Atleast on the Horde side.
I think Primal would work. Theres something primitive about allowing the elements to flow through you and your weapons to bash someone’s head in. Unlike an elemental who pin points and takes direct control of the elements, with enhancements it’s as if the elements take control of you

Kind of like Primal Zerg! :P
There’s no good substitute but I like the ring of “Primalist”
Even go a step further and elaborate on the Shaman’s connection to the Wild Gods and their ethereal connection.
Something between a warrior and a Spiritwalker, a Primalist would continue to emphasize on channeling the fury of Lo’gosh through their mastery of the Feral Spirit.

One thing I disliked about the legion redesign was how they tried to put back the focus on "enhancing" ourselves. When they said that some specs (notice the plural) would get a name change, I was expecting enh to be one of them... turns out there was no other spec name change :-/.
Enh had been stormstriking, lava lashing, throwing lightning bolts and earth/flame/frost shocks in your face for a long time. Instead of finding a better name, they instead made flametongue (the most boring weapon enchant we had, which had finally been made passive in WoD) now part of our rotation instead of something interesting. Instead of throwing supercharged lightningbolts in the face of our enemies, we suddenly got only stormstrike. Even WF animation (which was our iconic thing in vanilla) was made un-noticeable unless you really look closely.
I understand what they tried to do, but enh / shams are not the same as they were back in vanilla or BC. We don't have a ton of totems buffing our allies. Nobody likes recasting flametongue every 15s. Hell nobody liked FT to begin with, we straight up used it because dual wielding WF was a DPS loss because of how blizz coded it (hidden 3s CD to prevent it from proccing from itself I think).
Maybe we could of been called "strombringer" instead. As we bring the storm in your face instead of afar. Blizzard said in legion that they wanted Enh to not be "Elemental shaman but in melee". That's exactly what I liked about it. Most of the toolset was similar except I had 2 melee attacks and the rest were spells that I was throwing straight in my enemies faces. I loved being not useless once an enemy wasn't in melee range.
But you know, spec fantasy happened. We still have that name that doesn't mean much nowadays. For a spec we were told to wait 8.1 for more substantial changes... and now we got talent tuning, woohoo.

Enhancement made perfect sense when the name was made. At this point, it makes as much sense as survival for hunters. Who would think "survival hunter, must be a melee pet class." They throw bombs, use pets, and toss out poison. None of that screams survival more than any other spec. It's as vague as destruction. Destruction doesn't in any way indicate it's a class based around raising demons, or shadow magic. If you want to see the logic of the name of a spec, you will see it. Inversely, if you refuse to understand something, you never will. It's all in how you want to see things.

I'm not fond of Boulderdasher. The other two are pretty good though.
