how much haste are we aiming for in general?
There’s usually a soft cap and a hard cap, I’m reading you should hit at least 19800 points in Haste before value begins to feel Dimishing Returns. Its a bit early as most people will say about earning our stats higher up as we go into the expansion but IMO, just focus in priority as necessary than trying to max it out. Haste overall for Enhancement Shaman is our most important secondary stat to be grabbing for a multitude of reasons, especially as Stormbringer.
Plus, this is what was said about Enhancement Shaman’s Stats:
"Diminishing Returns on Stats
Every stat has a limit where they will begin to offer less increase per point gained, which are known as the points of diminishing return. Once you have reached these amounts, stats will become progressively less valuable and may fall behind other options. Due to us being very early in the expansion, this is less of an immediate concern for gearing and more something to be aware of. The current breakpoints are:
- 21000 Critical Strike Rating
- 19800 Haste Rating
- 23400 Versatility Rating
- 21000 Mastery Rating"
so do player go after mastery or just go haste/crit/vers
We definitely want Mastery but not as a priority compared to Haste. While Mastery will help with improved damage for all elemental damage (Fire, Nature, Ice, including healing as Healing Surge is Nature damage), more Stormstrike proccing. It isn’t as potent compared to how often you can respond with Haste lowering GCD, general cooldown of abilities, etc. We would benefit so much more over one than the other but with both, you do become more potent and it does feel more playable.
Critical Strike and Versatility IMO is more dependant on how you wish to play but generally Versatility feels more valuable since it both helps boost on-use trinkets as well as doing flat damage increase/reduced incoming damage since Enhancement Shaman feels stupidly squishy but if that doesn’t bother you in the slightest, then you are better off with Critical Strike since you’re relying on Healing Surge to Crit and net you for potentially half of your total health to be back to full. Though guides would often state for Stormbringer, you want Critical Strike over Versatility while Totemic is the opposite, despite the total rating values of those stats may allow you to accumilate before its value drops at its peak.
So, to graph it up, Agility > Haste > Mastery > Critical Strike > Versatility for Stormbringer Enhancement Shaman as a general rule but again, you are more lenient to choose whether you want more Versatility or Critical Strike. And when it comes to Agility and Haste, they’d say they’re equally important but Agility does increase our overall performance anyway (Agility = Haste) but I just focus more on always having more Agility whenever possible, minus what Trinkets provide in its bonus stats.
Bottom line, you don’t really have to follow this down to the letter unless you’re trying to run world first Mythic Raids or pushing past Mythic + dungeons where it isn’t going to reward you for the extra effort.
This also depends on what Hero talents are played. If you are going to play Totemic, then Vers is better than crit. Agilty=Haste is also for Totemic, so agility or haste-style trinkets are good.
So Agilty=Haste>Mastery>Vers>Crit for Enhance Totemic players in PvE.
Opps seems I posted on my Rogue!
Do you guys think it’s different for pvp? The recommendation, especially for storm build is haste…the problem is getting good uptime on a target.
I know through testing it out, high haste on the storm and even elementalist totemic build pumps damage, but that’s only if you can stay on the target. The issue is enhance mobility in pvp is kind of old man using a walker when it comes to getting into melee range on these mobile ranged classes.
I noticed that just getting adequate haste(maybe 12-15% base) and then focusing on more mastery(35%-40%) has been better for me in pvp. I’m lucky if I connect a few times on a mage. I need those lightning bolts, elemental blasts, frost shocks, etc., to hit as hard as possible.
Its almost important to have Versatility in most cases for PvP in general, and its no different for Enhancement. Though I haven’t ever touched PvP in a looooooong time, let alone as Enhancement Shaman, so I can’t even provide a concise answer but general rule for PvP is that Versatility is the go-to stat to focus on (Where most PvP gear given has at least one on them + ilvl boost for pvp reasons) but that means shifting another stat off for it which likely looks like this: Agility > Versatility > Haste > Mastery > Critical Hit Chance. I could be wrong with this order because, again, I do not know what the “Meta” is for PvP Stormbringer Enhancement Shaman but that rule that Versatility is absolutely a requirement above all else is not a joke, still have to make sure to not hit those dimishing returns.
Though from what I’ve been hearing, Enhancement Shaman isn’t doing all that well. Who knows what you have been doing in particular but w/e works for you is really a benefit to you and a confusion for the enemy getting “Zappy Slappy, Spammy Shammy” for underestimating a supposed weak Specialization in PvP.
