I’m going to be real, I’ve been an enhance main since TBC and recently I have not been very happy with the spec for a lot of reasons: weird talent mapping that doesn’t make sense on enhance side, talents I feel should be baseline, being forced to play Primordial Wave, etc; it just feels like Enhance has moved too far away from what it use to be and more recently I have found leveling in MoP remix that enhance is a absolute wet noodle while leveling compared to the other melee classes I have been playing, which to me shows there is something weird and wrong with enhance at it’s core.
So, going towards TWW, I am considering taking up different main and I wanted to see what other enhance players enjoy.
I already play Havoc DH, WW Monk, Arms Warrior, Ret Paladin, all of which are really fun with great damage and super useful tools and survivability compared to Enhance (Havoc being one of my favourites atm because it feels super good having multiple insta stuns, a true insta cc, great passive healing, and the list goes on).
So let me know what alts you enjoy and why.
Note: this is how I personally feel about the spec and I am not trying to open a discussion on the state of Enhance, just what the alternatives are. If you enjoy enhance, that is awesome and all the best to you.
Enhance doesn’t have any analogs unfortunately it is completely unique. Very little of the play style will translate well to other classes.
I have been conditioned to suffer on enhance.

While enhance has some problems, it’s as fun as it’s ever been imo in terms of our toolkit and play style.
If you’re not happy with it though, I also enjoy Survival hunter. It’s got some similarities in play style to Enhance in the sense that it’s kind of a hybrid melee/ranged spec.
I still love enhance the most, but I’ve also grown fond of other dual wielding specs like fury and outlaw.

I also play windwalker monk. Very fun similar fast playstyle. A bit more structured.
I love the roleplay of both of these.

Personally Enhance is #1, but I do enjoy Frost DK Obliterate Build on the side, it sort of plays similar to the Storm Build but viable .
It’s very fast faced piano style like Enhance, Obliterate = Storm Strike, Frost Strike = Lightning Bolt and so forth.
It’s the closest I feel to how I love Enhancement. Simple, Fast Paced, little range with Howling Blast, just insanely more Tankier + Self Healing compared to Enhance.
Edit: Personally you should give it a try and the rework in TWW for Frost + Deathbringer is looking fantastic. Solves a lot of the current issues people are mentioning.

I have been playing the 3 other melee classes
D.H/Pala because sometimes I just want to tank so I play both dps and tank specs.
Rogue- because stealth, lockpicking and everything else.
These are what I play but I keep finding my self returning to my shaman and playing enhancement. And part of that is WF watching all the numbers pop up at once and watching health bars melt when wf procs.
So yea I tank and I do other dps but keep coming back to my Enhancement. Heck every race that can be a Shaman I have a shaman I am leveling as Enhancement, find it eaiser and funner to level as Enhancement.

Not sure if fistweaver monk is considered a melee alt because it does a lot more healing than damage, but I enjoy it. I can sit back and heal (but use a lot of mana) or rush in to melee and use almost no mana. I like it because the playstyle is varied.
And switching to a pure dps windwalker form fistweaver is almost seamless. The attacks are generally the same so you don’t have to switch up your keybinds that much. I tried doing the same thing with restoration and feral druid but it was impossible for me to be good at both because they played so differently.
And the mobility of a fistweaver (or mistweaver) is unrivaled in this game.

I enjoy Arms Warrior personally.
Although pirate rogue is good too.

Its hard to not love Ret Paladin right now.
-strong single target
-strong aoe with no ramp up and no target caps
-super tanky
-castable heals and resource to heals
-excellent utility
-better mobility than people give it credit for
-easy to play
-extended melee range makes dealing with mechanics much easier than other melee
Its almost trolling to take any other melee over ret with how they are currently tuned. Its not a coincidence that they make up almost 50% of the total melee representation in timed keys. Hopefully in TWW the overall game balance is a little better.

i played enhancement leveling to 70 in the original tbc, again in original mists, and again for two months at dragonflight launch (quit after pointless aura nerfs). what’s my favorite melee alt?
survival hunter
