Enh shamans

I always hear people talking down on Enhancement Shamans, but whats so bad about them? I’d like to know, I feel like getting back into retail and want to play a Shaman, Enhancement preferably. So if someone could list the pros and cons and if there more useful for raids or m+ or if I should not even try with Enhancement

They don’t have the utility to cheese high keys in m+ and healing in pvp was gutted. Damage is good though and are capable enough in pve despite community perception. For more in depth info I suggest joining the earthshrine discord

Enchance shaman is fine. It’s just weighing bring the enhance shaman vs X in the same slot for similar utilities you choose X. Just okay is not okay.

Dispel, AoE stun, cc, melee…bring the DH b/c they also bring a unique magic debuff and higher aoe. Heroism/Bloodlust is mostly covered by drums or 3 out of 4 ranged you would bring. Or bring an Ele shaman that does the same but doesn’t crowd when spreading is valuable. Hunter/Mage do the similar utilities minus an AoE stun.

You forgot to mention that the aoe stun has to be used proactively not reactively making it’s usefulness to interrupt a mob’s mechanic that can’t be handled by interrupt abilities far weaker than any other class’s.

Example the undead shield guards in Atal’Dazar periodically use an aoe damage reduction ability. For most classes they see this ability get used and stun immediately, but for Shamans it takes an extra 2secs to perform this same task making capacitor totem by design far less valuable than other abilities like it. Sundering with its disorient mechanic is more useful as a form of CC than Capacitor Totem.

But we can also purge shields off of mobs which dose help there is also a death run where we can get a group to skip a pack by running past then after everyone dies and the mob resets we can Res 1 time every 30 and then res the healer to mass res.

That is really the only cheese we can do. As said due to pvp our self healing in pve and pvp is trash due to blizzards knee jerk reaction so yea.

There are very few instances where there are mobs that have buffs we can dispel, but adding in such mechanics to cater to such a niche utility would probably just end in headache. In regards to death skipping you can just bring a druid who can literally stealth pass everything then mass rez. Not that your statement isn’t sound its just in regards to “we bring things that other classes do better” having the healer stealth through the mobs and mass rez everyone is far more handy.

Blizz has never had a moderately sensible approach to Enh when it comes to nerfs or even buffs lol. Hmm Enh isn’t doing enough damage lets double how hard Stormstrike hits for! Oh wow they hit way to hard now lets nerf that back down and while we’re at it nerf their healing/purge as well, and Lava Lash to just to be safe.

For non-high end PvE gameplay enhancement is just fine (although arguably it’s fine there too but that’s a different story). It carries a negative stigma because it’s not as fotm as ele has been this expansion.

they are not fine in pvp, and for that’s where my issue lay.

their heals are not just poor, their heals are as if they are non existant.

so sustainability is a huge, huge issue.

damage wise the damage is ok, and is overtly reliant on long cooldown
(heres to you ascendance)

so when combine very limited healing with average damage and limited cc

while you are fighting other classes that have

higher damage output
more cc, more interrupts
and can outheal your damage

how to you win?

and to make matters worse, your sustainability powers also have incredibly high resource costs.

enhancement for whatever reason has been on the cellar ceiling list for developers who are content to keep them there

Well the dev’s made a knee jerk reaction to arena pvps in which enh shaman was part of. I did not see the match but apperntly the Enhancement shaman saced damage to keep the healer alive. And instead of making reasonable changes they decided to nurf us into the gd ground.

Basically we did what a hybrid dps with the ability to heal their allies should do. We healed our allies, and people got mad about it. Also the combo of Static Cling and Ride the Lightning was too powerful, but forked lightning did NOT need to be backed into Ride the Lightning that was just full on spiteful as Ride the Lightning is now basically a dead talent depending on what kind of comp you play with.

I dont run with a comp I do wpvp or bg’s. But yea they nurfed us hard because we did our gd job. Hate being the red headed stepchild of blizzard

since you havent played one ill say it go ahead and play one and you will see.
