I’m leveling up engineering with my warrior and I’m pretty sure I want to specialize in Globin. But one cool thing I think I would be missing out in Gnomish is the mind control cap. However I saw on wowhead that the cap is Bind on Equip!? Does that mean I could get a gnome engineer to make me one and I can use it?
The tooltip for the Gnomish Mind Control Cap says “Requires engineering (215)”.
That means you need to be an engineer with skill of at least 215 to use it.
Now, if you are a goblin engineer and this is a gnomish engineering device, does 215 in goblin engineering allow you to use it, that’s a good question.
There is one comment on wowhead that implies that should be possible, but the commentor doesn’t expressly state if they tried it to verify it would work.
Maybe ask in trade if anyone has done it?

Go gnomish
Make trinkets
Drop gnomish
Go goblin
If all it says is “requires X engineering” you’re good to go either way.
There is a comment on the BFA wowhead item page, not the Classic page, from someone who says they have done this: made it on a gnomish engineer and given it to a goblin engineer who was able to use it. That probably means yes you can do this since it is more likely for them to later add a gnomish engineer only requirement after Vanilla than to have that be a requirement in Classic and later remove it.

I know gnomish and goblin engineers can use each others stuff… But I dont want to go gnomish just to get the cap then drop it and level engineering all over again so I can get the goblin stuff. I know some people do that. But my question is, since it says Binds on Equip, does that mean I can go straight for goblin and have a gnomish engineer make a mind cap for me?
I guess what I’m really asking is… Is mind control cap really bind on equip? or is the wowhead info wrong? Bc if it is, obviously I can get it from someone who can make it.
It’s really BoE. Someone can make it for you
Go gnomish and make everything, then go to tanaris and use the book to switch engineering specs. That’s what I did
Was already suggested and he said he didn’t want to do that
He says he doesn’t want to have to level all over again. There is a book called soothsaying for dummies in tanaris, you just use that and it changes your specialization.
I didn’t realize it was in game until I changed specs because I didn’t think it was in vanilla, but when I used it the book gave me goblin engineering without having to do anything. I did not lose any engineering levels.
Also to the OP on my sever there are goblin rocket helmets and MC caps on the AH, so you can check yours and use them with any spec, but people usually charge too much for them
Is that really true? I saw someone on stream… I think it was sodapoppin or someone like that… go there to click the book. But idk if it worked bc later he just unlearned gnomish to learn engineering all over again. Does this book really work in classic?
I took gnomish, unlearned to go goblin. Got to 225 and before I went to get goblin engineering one of my friends asked why I didn’t just use the book. Went over there and it let me chose what spec I wanted. I am told if you are above 225 that it sets you down to 225, but besides that as far as I know it works.
Few people said it didn’t work for them, so it may be buggy
Wow… thats good info. Thanks a lot guys! I think I’ll take the safe route and just go goblin anyways. All I want from gnomish is the cap. And If I can get someone else to make it for me then its all good. So maybe in the future if I really want something else from gnomish I’ll try the book, so there’s no risk of it being buggy.
Fixed.
Go Goblin
BUY trinket
In vanilla if you used mind control and then did a custom emote with /e, you could communicate with the opposing faction via the emote
We used to do it to talk smack to full wsg teams from other servers before we capped the final flag on them. We’d mind control one of their players and do “/e welcome to battlegroup 1” and then end the match
get 240 gnomish eng then respec goblin with the book in tanaris
get it all
Ummm Some trinkets are bind on pickup…
It’s best used on undead or if you have a pvp trinket, if it backfires your target mindcontrols you, or it outright fails. Nothing better than stealthing into ironforge and using it on flagged alliance and making them attack the battlemasters who promptly whirlwinded everyone to death. Then you vanish and sprint out of there.
It’s cool but the hour cooldown is not. However, when Classic was “live” so many years ago and i was on a pvp server as a rogue - i had that MC helmet and had a blast MC’ing the main tank on the Emerald Dragon bosses. They are taunt immune.
