IIRC engineer’s pets (mechanical dragonling, battle chicken) scaled with skill, +1 lvl per 5 skill points. A level 30 player with 200 engineering skill should be summoning level 40 engineering trinket dragons/chickens (as opposed to a level 30 dragon at my current 208 skill). A key gnome racial perk was having higher level eng-pet summons than any other race.
IIRC this wasn’t nerfed until WOTLK, to stop level 30-39 battlegrounds from being absolutely slaughtered by level 63 chickens.
If anyone remembers differently let me know, as for Classic Engineering is otherwise either bugged or changed. If this is already noted somewhere, please link me up, I’m having difficulty locating “known issues”.
It’s not on the “not a bug list”. I don’t have access to the known issues list though.
Having the pets scale with skill was one of the main reasons to pick gnome with engineering early in WoW so it shouldn’t be a bug. Would be nice to see more info on this.

There appears to be a problem with the battle chicken in that its not scaling properly and seems to simply follow the players level.
The mechanical dragonling and the mithril dragonling are scaling properly and their level is eng level / 5 so if you have 300 eng , these dragonlings are L60.
The chicken has other probs as well, in that it wont follow you around and wont attack mobs unless you bring them near the chicken.
My mechanical dragonling is only my level and I’m 300 engi. They’re not scaling.
