Engineering is ded

Who at Blizzard thought that recycling various crafting mats (that I need for my other crafters vs scrap dropping from mobs, which I would have a ton of by time I was 80 to 90 was a better and a fair system.

Basically if I was a single toon player, I’ll be forced to shop the AH for materials to “recycle”, that is just bad. Sure, I could continually make my one item with ore and continually recycle it.. only to need those for leveling.. double the the mining for little progress. Thanks! great job!

I totally understand having mats from other crafters to make special items.. but this is beyond terrible. Please fix this.

Every time they touch professions they make them worse and worse. The old system before Dragonflight wasn’t perfect but I found it preferable to this slop.

They really seem to have taken a few steps back with Engineering this expansion.

Which is a shame because TWW’s iteration of it was a step in the right direction.

But in Midnight:

-We discover most new recipes via recycling and it has such an extremely low chance of discovering new ones which thereby results in you having to spend astronomical amounts of gold in order to learn more recipes

-Getting from 80-100 skill is a NIGHTMARE and requires either a: getting lucky with the patron orders that show up or b: recipes with expensive as hell materials that turn green once you get to 90.

DF’s rework of professions certainly had good intentions and they made strides to improve it with TWW.

But they never seem to have done much about the #1 complaint people have had and it’s that the simple act of skilling up certain production professions is either heavily timegated or extremely expensive.

I gave up on it. No more crafting for me. I’ll just sell my mats and buy what I need.

Yeah and Im not stepping near the AH , Wanted to make a fishing pole, but the fin required from skinners was 170k and granted now it’s 10k but still ridiculous .. yet to buy a fishing pole was 20k… not sure whats worse.. wow’s player run economy or our RL economy.

but oh I forgot, thats right.. I can’t make fishing poles yet, Im busy playing the stories, doing the multitude events (with no scrap dropping) and because of the recycling system.. have yet pour gold into this broken system. No thanks.

I’ll also put my two cents in and say that the midnight engineering is ridiculous. In order to recycle, I have to make something to recycle. It’s kind of silly.

Alchemy and Inscription have been fine for me but anything actually used to craft equipment just drives me insane.

100% I used to love professions before Dragonflight. Now, I regret it any time I decide to do anything but double gathering on a character.

Edit to add: Only reason I keep Engineering on the alts that have it is the Loot-A-Rang.

Seems the only thing that isn’t half-baked this expansion is the art. Everything else could use a few more months in the oven, everything from class balance, professions, to the actual code that powers this game.

We are playing a half-baked beta.

We are required to put points into recycling tree to unlock most of the other recipes we’ll need. It’s pretty silly.

I wouldn’t say engineering is dead. It still has a lot of utility and makes a lot of useful profession tools.

Cloth bolts are cheap ways to recycle or the evercores and things are pretty cheap to just directly buy if you want. With the cost of the basic materials, engineering profession tools and other things are relatively cheap outside of some of the epic materials for higher end crafts.

Its good for hunters, if you want non-rng means of getting weapons . Though putting a work order is waaay better than jumping through loops via the profession

And this is why I don’t touch professions until at least season 2, after bots have brought mats down to an affordable level.

This is the first expansion I dropped engineering.

They’ve now baked engineering utility into other items (mailboxes, so many alternative portals, I can use items for gliders and repair bots etc) that there’s very little left that’s unique to engineering.

So why bother, it’s not a money maker.

Why on earth would someone go engineering when every other profession is better???

I agree, Engineers do make tools and such for the community, but unless I make myself a tailor/engineer.. Im once again a slave to the AH. Lets not forget, your server prices could vary from other server groups.

Now, the guy who run bot teams to farm mats while he’s at work, to sell on the AH, also determine the prices and right now.. those prices are a little unrealistic.

Will they go down in time? Sure.. should I have to wait, unlike other professions, for my source of recycle mats to come to a fair price to level a tradeskill? Imo, no.

Should I be forced to run multiple characters to feed the lone engineer so I don’t have to farm gold to buy mats of the AH? again, imo, no.

Simply put, there isnt any other tradeskill that is so reliant on leveling via destroying another crafters base craft items, or his own crafted items, which incidentally.. you’ll need to level.. so which means, double the mining time. It simply needs a rework or it’ll have to wait until the market is saturated, cause im not buying coins to level a profession.

The newer profession system is awful. Just let me farm and grind out what I want at the beginning of an expansion. If it wasn’t for the nitro boost and wormholes, engineering would be useless anyways

I supplied all the repair stations, Raid rez items and buff pausing items last expansion, not every raid is outdoors for mounts. So I think my guild was happy, as myself, that I was engineering. PvP engineering is great, PvE.. enginering is still great; teleports to every expansion, extra mail box, bank access, gliders, nitro boosts etc etc etc

The Loot-a-Rang is the key perk for me.

Yes, love the loot-a-rang! (and the swap-blaster)
