So I am currently stack on skill level 50 on my engineer…
He can only gain skill points from crafting the goggles. Problem is they are a Engineering-only gear. Who was the GENIUS that came up with this idea?
Also this entire specialization thing is very very very bad imo.
I feel like they were trying to go back to how things were till the end of wrath only they managed to completely F IT UP.
Things are even worse with the TERRIBLE rep grind that is needed to get the gated plans. It used to be that you could get to max lvl from learning pats/plans from the trainer, with some of them being world drops, or vendor sellers. why go F this up and gate the very basic thing in professions - the ability to get to max lvl ?
And here I thought DF was going to be amazing.
I AM SO SO annoyed with this. I just spent more than an hour trying to figure out how to get to higher-than-50 skill on my engineering and the only way was to grind more rep to get more pats and then I realized that most of the grinde-able pats are going to be already greyed-out… again, how smart!
Also, Crafting stations ? Making some items only craftable on “portable crafting station”? and then making that “portable station” gated behind god know what?
STUPID.
I had such high hopes for DF after the great launch experience I had during the first week.
Starting to get a bad feeling about this
on the bright side Darkmoon Faire gives 2 points for skill quests now rather than 5…

Yes, engineering is kind of hammered dog crap due to the renown locks and random drops of other recipes (which your fellow players will absolutely make you pay out the nose for).
It’s dumb that my engineer is at a point that he can progress the profession more via a Darkmoon Faire profession quest than crafting anything for the current expansion.

Big thank you to both of you guys!
You made me smile!
Also, I forgot about the DMF skillup so I’ll do it
Now I’ll be stuck at 52 ?
100% agree, you have to waste all your gameplay time on grinding rep to get your skill up for stuff that won’t be selling as much as the other professions. As usual, engineering is the worst profession. The goggles and bracers are not really worth it, explosives have a 5min cooldown so… yea… Seriously thinking of just dropping this and picking a second gathering profession

Engineering is one of those weird things where it’s useless until it isn’t.
IMO it’s easily the best profession once you consider the utility of having a universe wide teleport network in your back pocket.
No idea how it’s going to stack up as far as Min-maxing but it’s consistently proven to be fantastic for player utility.

you can recraft items for a chance at skill points - engineers can make lots of profession equipment so you aren’t likely ‘stuck’.
Just make the goggles cosmetic transmogs so I can drop the profession.
This isn’t just engineering. It’s all crafting professions. The designed it that way on purpose. They want you to have to do crafting orders to level from 60-100. They even just nerfed the skill ups from recrafting cause they want people to have to use crafting orders. The problem is no one is making orders for various reasons.

Honestly the only reason I keep engineering is for the portals.

It’s always been this way.
Post in the suggestion forum. That’s your best bet.
Yes, you’ll have to make multiple things towards the end. Everyone does.
Engineering is in a bad place. Why do they keep releasing reaves modules without an updated reaves schematic as well?
Tinkers are useless. Nobody is going to wear the wrists. The only things they added was help and savior.
Yep agreed. I haven’t even touched crafting orders, the menu is confusing and obtuse. My engineering sits at 60 and is broken.
Why should I have to do crafting orders to level up my profession? Just give us basic recipes to craft so we can get our professions maxed out. Once they are maxed, that is where the new and completely optional stuff should kick in, like crafting orders. That quest that forces us to do 5 crafting orders should be an optional.

problem with crafting orders, no one has the item we only get 1 a week of. those are required for all my skill up recipes. so until we are flooded with them expect orders to drip at a slow rate if any at all.
… but it also gives 3 knowledge points, which in many cases are more useful.
I managed to get to level 75 in engineering, but it was pretty painful. I specced into Mechanical Mind because I really wanted to be able to battle res people with the Tinker slot. Apart from the goggles, that was literally the only thing I could gain levels off of.
I don’t even know how many Awakened Orders I went through. When I hit level 68 or 69, the recipe became green quality and I finally opted to buy them to level up to 75. Think I had to craft 12 - 15 just to get those last few levels.
Originally I was planning on my third spec to be “Gears for Gear”, but I figured NOBODY was going to submit a crafting order for goggles when they can just create it themselves. Instead, I chose “Gear” as my third spec so I could at least craft guns for other hunters. Sure hope nothing messes up that plan, like the last boss of the raid dropping a higher ilvl ranged weapon. Boy, would I have egg on my face.
Edit: for those wondering, once you reach level 75 in engineering, the only recipes that reward skill points are those requiring Spark of Innovation. The Re-craft option might also, I haven’t checked.

I thought eng was just a solo profession. It’s real gain was just for the person who had it. It should be loaded with stuff for the eng to use at will. Blizz has definitely not helped that, tho.
Agreed. However, they did say that level 50 in a profession is enough to learn every recipe in the game (unlike before), and the remaining 50 points are there to improve quality. In other words, it’s almost like 50 is actually max skill where you can theoretically do all the things, and 51-100 are like paragon levels that improve the quality of what you can do. They changed the design intent of levelling professions (but didn’t necessarily do a great job communicating it).
The portals, the cloak tinker (glider FTW!), and … a mount or two?
I’m still in on Engineering, but I’m in no hurry to level it.
