I dont remember now, but was engineering in vanilla, and is it worth the effort/cost to lvl?
or do you think since it will be a new server that only gathering professions will be worth having?
Engineering was definitely in vanilla. I used to use it on my low level paladin to find stealthed rogues with explosive sheep in low level PVP.
The sheep were level 35 so they could see through stealth that I couldn’t. Fun times where had by all!
Engineering is a must if you plan on pvping. If your playing on a pve server and don’t plan on pvping really at all then I would go with money making professions. I love pvp and will dedicate most of my time pvping so im for sure going Engineering/Mining.

Engineering also great for hunters in pve (feign and rez for wipe prevention).
It is also great for dungeons for tanks. Throwing bombs for aoe threat is a huge advantage.
Great for hunters because you could make your own ammo.
At 60 engineering will hands down be the most popular profession on pvp servers. It’s amazing in pvp (godlike even) and still useful in pve. On Pve servers it won’t be as popular out of the gates at 60 (but will still be pretty common to see). Once people have a farming character we’ll see a lot of mains rocking Engineering+Other crafting profession.
Overall Vanilla is the reason that Engineering was slowly kicked to death throughout the rest of WoW’s history. It was just that good in Vanilla.

In just PvE, you’d be likely better off with another profession unless you want to farm the extra materials to make bombs to intermix in your rotation. I don’t know if it would actually be a dps increase though.
A lot of people will go Gnomish for the BoP stuff. But Goblin engineers could make BoE stuff that required goblin engineering to make, but only generic engineering to use. So there is a market there. Plus selling ammo to Non-engineer hunters ![:slight_smile:](https://d38bqls1q93fod.cloudfront.net/en/wow/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=6" ":slight_smile:")
(Side note, most Gnomish BoP stuff didn’t need Gnomish to use, so someone could make them, drop and relevel engineering to switch to goblin, but a lot won’t bother I don’t think.)
I don’t know enough about rogue to know how good bombs were as part of a rotation or anything. So I’m zero help there.
Personally I always had fun with engineering and the conveniences were nice. Something like Vanish + engineering Rez can make you the hero of any dungeon. Just make sure to rez someone who can rez everyone else and of course it has a chance to not work but still, a chance is better than no chance (I think vanish gets you out of combat and resets the mobs on a wipe anyway. If any rogues want to correct me feel free!).
