May we please have a discussion about engineers and what we can do to make us feel more included in the crafting world? We had some really awesome ideas in Legion, whatever happened to that?
Pets, mounts, gear, tinkers…and none of them are craftable for other people via crafting orders? What about buffing bombs that provide some nice stats or a Suspiciously ticking crate to put out for raids that either buff or damage? Maybe with the right bomb, a skilled engineer could save a tank during a fight or if we have no warlocks, why not create a wormhole generator for people to use?
Even something as basic as parts. You mean I’m not making bolts and springs for all this profession equipment for other people? There’s gotta be something.
This expansion and a couple of the previous expansions before this one really overlooked engineering in major ways, I believe. It seemingly has the biggest potential to make cool and exciting transmogs, gizmos, and gadgets but no love gets put into it.
The entire problem with engineering, and this has been true since the start, is damn near everything is restricted. Either BoP or engineering only. We need to be able to craft things we can directly sell to others that are useful and in demand. Engineering has always been a “Me only” profession.
Adding a tinker slot to an item, like being able to make people parachutes or invisibility stuff; you know fun or utility. Back in cata we also had the goblin grill; in legion we had the mana and health injectors. I would love to be able to make stuff for people to actually use in combat or even just fun but useful, you know?

I just stopped because I didn’t craft anything I used. I crafted some goggles for plate and the rest were useless. I didn’t even get to craft any explosives. I wanted to just enjoy myself getting interesting gadgets like some hunter disengage, bombs, teleporters, but it’s just so boring early on.
And isn’t that a slap in the face. We can actually craft MORE things than we can use because of class restrictions. (You can only wear one class of armor, and you have 3 other schematics for that gear that you cannot use.) And I see NO demand for the armor that engineers can make.
I agree with the fun and utility. I also think engineers should have an engineering socket as well. That would be a great boon to the profession especially if they could sell sockets and anyone could use one…as long as engineers get three!
I’ve literally only used the goggles for my entire time as an engineer. The freedom to choose a profession spec hindered my ability to actually use anything else.
I was more disappointed in the very meager selection of tinkered items for the tinker slot. They seem woefully underwhelming. Engineers always made very very powerful (although admittingly unstable) items that were unique and second to none. Now they are just, …meh…
Yea, and I think the majority of them are pvp trinkets anyway? I haven’t started on the mechanical mind and I like to be surprised…usually frustrating. But STILL!
I was inspired earlier and so badly want some sort of device that acts like a mild form of Primal rage or something that help buff aoe damage or heals. Engineering is that kind of fun but they just gotta do it.
OR/AND:
Like a potion vendor, you can stock up, similar to the feasts. Or even update Jeeve’s inventory. Why can’t I upgrade him.
