Engineering Goggles with patch 8.1

Ok so patch 8.1 included new higher ilevel goggles for engineers and finally a pattern to use my Sanguicell on, YAY!

But there is a problem and I haven’t seen any chat about this anywhere so I’m coming here hoping somebody else has an answer (even though I’m worried I won’t like the answer).

So I crafted the ilevel 340 goggles way back when I first hit 120. I still have them in my bags even though they obviously aren’t worth wearing outside of situations where I need the + Engineering.

It looks like the new ilevel 385 goggles I have mats for with 250 Sanguicells, which would probably be an upgrade for me, are locked behind a discovery (for crafting the ilvl 340 goggles I already have). Since these 340 goggles are BOP and I already have a pair I have no interest in throwing away another 20 Expulsom on them if there is another way.

Is there any other way to learn the 385 ilevel goggles since I have already crafted the 340 ones without crafting another throw-away pair?

Thanks for any tips.

I just went through the various goggle recipes.
To get the 385 goggles you have to craft the 370 goggles first (crafting 370 “discovers” the recipe for the 385). The 370 goggles are new and taught by the trainer.

When you craft the 385 goggles you will discover the recipe for the 400, and when you craft the 400 you will discover the 415 goggles.

The total amount of expulsom and/or sanguicell required through everything is really high.

The goggles are just a gimmick to get the motherlode mount mats, at least now you don’t have to take a massive hit in ilevel to equip a 340 item to farm them.

Not sure if this applies to the engineering goggles, but since the patch, players have reported getting expulsom back with the hydrocore / sanguicell used to craft the BoP pieces, making it a little more efficient to craft them if the secondary stats are wrong.

Can you skip the entry level goggles and craft the 385 goggles(Surging) to discover the SP1 goggles(400) or do you need to start with crafting the 370 goggles(Imbued)?

I’ve read multiple articles stating Relational Normalizing Guzmo isn’t a good trait, but after testing the trait myself - I find the engineering googles to possess the best traits in the game. I’m either receiving 700 intellect or 900 haste every 25 seconds (on average). Has anyone tested this and found a different perspective?

Edit: if you could possibly wait until Tidlecores are released, it would be more beneficial for you to save the explosum to learn the 8.1 goggles. It gives 4 traits opposed to the original 3 in 8.0.1.

You have to craft the 370 recipe first, that is the only way to get the current 385 recipe.

Please note: Regardless of how quickly you learn the new 385 or 400 or 415 recipes, you can’t craft them until the release of Battle of Dazar’alor, because there isn’t any Breath of Bwomsamdi or Tidalcores yet.

The most you can craft currently is the sanguicell 385 piece, and that is gated behind you doing the 370 piece first.
