Engineering - Fatal Backfires

Have there been any changes to the engineering items for HC realms?

  • Reloading your mortar can hit you for over 10k damage
  • Teleporting to Gadgetzan can cause you to fall from a fatal height
  • Teleporting to Everlook can burn you for more than your entire HP bar

These are fun when death is a minor inconvenience. However, in a hardcore setting the punishment seems a little over the top.

(Backfires that don’t insta-kill you seem fine to me. I’m not advocating for removal of them)

To me, that is a risk you have to consider when using those engineering items or not. I think they should be as is.

You think an item should instantly kill you with very little indication it will in-game?
They fixed the Videre Elixir. Why should engineering be different?

At least update the tooltip so it says “warning - reloading this item has a chance to instantly kill you”

The only way to find out the backfires of engineering is to go dive into wowhead comments. The only reason I know is through watching Guzu… and then watching it kill my friend after I implored him to not reload his trinket

Without knowing the specifics of what the Videre Elixir did, my assumption is that if is related to quests that require dying to accept or complete, that was changed so that you no longer have to die.

Engineering items that have the potential to kill you, if that is indeed how it worked in vanilla, that should remain as is. Again, that is the risk you take when using engineering items.

In regards to going to WoWhead or watching Guzo (whoever that is. Streamer I assume?), that is a great resource to take advantage of to determine if using said engineering item, or anything like that, is a good idea or not.
