Engineering choice (PvP and PvE): World Enlarger vs Mortar/Sapper

This has always been the most difficult choice for me. I really like the idea that I can use a World Enlarger and stack it with other shrinking effects in PvP… but there are mixed results about whether this works on Classic Era servers. If it doesn’t stack with noggenfogger or other shrinking effects, then the choice is much simpler, and I would just go for Goblin engineering for the mortars and sappers and such.

What is everyone’s experience with these tools? Specifically about the World Enlarger and if it stacks with other shrinking effects.

Sappers and mortars don’t actually require goblin to use + the Tanaris portal is infinitely more useful than the Everlook portal.

Most players should go gnomish. Mages can go goblin because they don’t really care about the battle chicken or teleporters.

Yeah I usually play mage, so my hearth is always gadgetzan anyway. Then i use TP to IF/SW/Darn anyway.

So it sounds like I can just go gnomish then, even on a mage, since Everlook isn’t really that great of a teleport either, and I do prefer to just use iron/thorium grenades mostly in pvp for the stun (and no backfire mechanic).

Anyone can use a sapper charge, but you need to be a Goblin Engineer to make your own. Otherwise you’re going to be buying them on the AH.

The path is to make the stuff you want on gnome, then switch to goblin for the bombs and stuff.

I may end up just making my undead rogue a goblin engy, and my gnome a ngomish engy. Ill just make the sappers/mortars on the rogue and give em to the mage as needed. I honestly dont even really use em that much in day-to-day pvp. Maybe just really difficult duels against a warlock or something.

I don’t think cross faction trade/mail exists in Classic like that? Maybe I’m wrong.

I just remember in the day that anyone who went goblin (I’m a huge goblin fan so ofc I did) was very in demand for guilds because PvPers would have 12x Rocket Boots because they could just disappear, and twice as many Sapper Charges.

The shrink effect of World Enlarger can also be provided by goblins via Noggenfogger drink, it’s just that it’s a consumable.

It only exists via neutral auction house.

Yeah I’ve also always been goblin back in vanilla. I just don’t remember any guilds wanting/needing sappers and rocket boots back then. It was early enough that most people didn’t go engineering because “it was too complicated” or because they went with other professions. Not many min/maxers back then.

Yeah I heard this too, but I know at some point these effects were stackable, and if they are stackable in Classic Era, then I could see a great use of using noggen for the shrink, and then using world enlarger to shrink even more, and running WSG flags or capping AB flags while being so small. If we’re far enough into the changes that these two aren’t stackable, then I would just go gnomish first, and then switch to goblin.

Goblin all day

I prefer goblin for pvp. Reload the mortar, aoe tidal charm
