Just crafted the Dragonflight engineering mail goggles which includes a red Tinker socket. I have ‘Tinker: Plane Displacer’ but it won’t socket. What am I missing here?
This seems more confusing than needed and I can’t find any answer as to how I’m supposed to use this socket. Any help is appreciated.

Items that can be socketed in a Tinker Socket (Engineer Googles and Bracers) are Cogwheels, not Tinker.

Search ‘tinker’ on the AH. You will get a list of things that you can slot.
I find the battle rez tinker good. Also, the flamethrower one is nice, doing something like 73k over six seconds. Good for some classes. I wish that it wouldn’t show you using a flamethrower, as for a Dracthyr it would look like a breath weapon.

Besides the Tinker socket, can you add a Gem Socket???

I wonder the same, I see some season 1 items with a tinker socket that have a regular 70haste 33vers gem in them. Maybe an early bugged item? Then I see items that should have a tinker socket in them, but don’t and instead have the tinker provided by the gem as a paragraph of text on the tooltip.
Who makes Cogwheels if they can be found on the AH?
Engineers and some vendors have them. They aren’t in the new expansion as far as I know. They are used by some twinks as I have made them for them in the past.
Cogwheels are in TWW, they are the bottom 4 options on the ‘parts’ tree, but they are now more of optional reagents than gems (even if they are made from gems)
This thread explains why my cogwheels aren’t selling at least…
As a follow up Engineers also make the Cogwheels if they spec into “Inventing” Thank you Kassiel.
I have a similar question. My DK is an engineer. I’m looking to make Blasting Bracers for my warlock. So my question is, can a non-engineer make use of a tinker socket?
I know that some profession made items can be used only by a toon with that profession. Are the tinker sockets on engineering made items among them?
Non-engineer can make use of tinkers. With less success rate than engineers of course. Have to put in a safety. TBH though, the tinkers in TWW are a lot less appealing than the DF ones. Always had a kick out of doing a brez with a mage for example. Tis a NOPE this time around.
