Can anyone explain to me why Engineering gets bent over a barrel and only gets 2 knowledge for their weekly quests when every other profession gets 3? I honestly do not understand this at all from a game design perspective.
They might have fewer nodes than other professions. Just my guess.
Engineering needs 525 knowledge to max out. Blacksmithing requires 800.
You’re fine getting 3 less knowledge per week.
Welcome to the flawed system that is DF professions. Overall great groundwork for changes but they missed the mark in a few places. Eng and Alch are two crafting professions that can be capped fairly painlessly. The others are completely reliant on either making a ton of BoP profession tools or the nonexistent work orders. To compensate for this blizzard seems to want to give them less knowledge rewards.
That reasoning would only work if 525 points in engineering provided the same amount of stuff as 800 points in blacksmithing. And that is not the case.
Blacksmithing gets more stuff and progresses faster.
It is not just about maxing out points. It is what you get for those points.
While the 1 point per week is not hugely impactful, it is still just more engineering not getting treated as well as the other professions.
I agree with that.
Personally, I think the largest single failure is value differential. The difference between the professions with the highest value return and even the middle is huge. Let alone top to bottom. They need to step back and take a serious look at how they can balance out the value of each profession.
I am unconvinced that in the universe where all profs get knowledge at the same rate, there is not a forum thread complaining that engineers get to max sooner than blacksmiths. It’s a lose-lose proposition.
The two places they missed the mark:
- Combining the order system with an RNG product
- Not giving every profession a mode to make Industrious Insight to attach to an order.
Someone being upset doesn’t necessarily matter. Even the best possible choice will upset someone.
But, bottom line: Hitting max doesn’t matter. There is no reward for hitting max. You get rewards as you put points in.
To use an illustration. Imagine if you were paid for running. Every mile you got $100. But there is a limit. Say you can only get paid for 20 miles. Now also imagine there is another person also getting paid to run. He also gets $100 for every mile. His max is 12 miles though. Are you going to complain he can finish first? No, of course not. There is no advantage to him finishing at 12 miles. You wouldn’t argue that because he can get his $1200 before you get your $2000 that he should be hobbled so he is slower. And anyone that did would rightly be called out.
The profession points are similar. Blacksmithing doesn’t get less per point than engineers. They just have access to more stuff so more total points. Arguing engineers should be slowed down because they have less rewards to get is a bad argument.
The reality is engineers just take longer to get less. It is really backward thinking.
Regardless of the point total 3’s across the board. That and y’know give engineering 1 or 2 more things to max out to make up for it.Not like they did not have the time more like lazyness seeing what the Engineers rarely get compared to the main professions is variety. Sure bombs fireworks toys all the generic stuff next to nothing for Guns compared to past expansions I think we get 2 to craft one base basic one which no one uses past a certain level and a low drop Raid pattern which tbh you are best off buying if you dont want to repeat LFR over and over. And the rest of DF engineering is quite meh Wrists and Helms are ok for non raiders etc some quirky grenades and ammo are average the rest do not interest me. The main thing tied too ^ is the scrap side of things but that being limited to a 20 cap is just a bit absurd. Capping anything in this game especially something as benine as that just erks me to no end. Very certain things should have a “unique X cap” but a very limited amount of things.
But yes slight tangent over Engineering imo must of been done near the tail end before release seeing how little we do get compared to what we did get from engineering in the past.Oh well can’t win em all.
