Enemy Parries

With 305 skill and 6% hit, I’m still noticing an absolute ton of parries/dodges in 60 content. Is there a way to reduce this, or retune this? Because having a string of shield slam parries is soul crushing.

its just very high, and no expertise in classic

its like 6% dodge and 14% parry

huge benefit that hunters and casters enjoy is they dont have to deal with this stuff

They have to deal with spell resist…

well hit cap is like 16% i think? 6% isn’t enough really

caster hit cap which is 16% for lvl 63’s is completely different from melee

Special hit cap for melee is 9% so 6% from gear 3% from our “combat-related” ring enchant.

The stat that would mitigate this would be expertise but unfortunately it is not a thing. Would be kind of nice if they turned it down a bit or increased threat in general on tanks. Being reliant on Alpha is pretty rough lol

most casters also have hit talents. Spriest gets 10% from talents, 6% from ring for example, so their hitcap is literally 0%. Mages get a few % as well, as do locks, etc.

Shadow should require 2% spell hit on gear to be capped with talents + ring rune.

Spell hit cap is 17%, the first 1% hit on gear is ignored in Classic, meaning you need 18% when including gear.

thats incorrect, check any sim or any class discord.

spell hitcap is 16%, the last 1% is unobtainable and you can always miss.

whether you have 16% hit, 17% hit or 40% hit, you will always have a 1% miss chance.

That’s just classic for you. It’s about a ~20% combined chance to get dodged or parried, even when capped on it. Warriors attack frequently enough that it’s not really a big deal.

My only gripe is that Defender’s Resolve (buff from using Shield Slam) should probably proc on ability use, not on ability hit. This buff can fall off even when using ShS on cooldown.

This is more inline with what I’ve heard.

Weapon skill is the only thing in Vanilla that can reduce dodges and parries. Also you don’t ask to reduce how much parry mobs have, you’re playing a 20yo game, you don’t change these things, you adapt instead.

This is factually correct.

This is how spell hit works in classic vanilla for lvl 63 targets, which is what all bosses are.

which happens at such a substantially lower rate its not even comparable

Fighting a melee hunter or metamorph warlocks is like, DODGE, DODGE, DODGE, DODGE, DODGE, DODGE. How tf I can only overpowe once every 6 seconds and I get killed in 6-8 seconds.

Yeah if only it was possible to stand in a position relative to the target that removed that mechanic all together…

Unfortunately there isnt much else you can do to reduce Parries or Dodged beyond what youve done already - as a Tank. A lot of tanks have an add on that calls out major ability dodges/parries during the initial pull to let DPS know to throttle back til threat is established to try and counteract the potential effects of whiffing a Shield Slam/Sunder early.

Having a Revenge in the chamber ASAP (by initiating with Shield Block up) as a backup is about your best bet.

DPS will still see dodges from the back but they will only see Parries if theyre in the front 180 of the mob.

Unless you’re a prot warrior, or soloing in the world…

Might have been a different thread but people were talking about tank abilities not landing. And as for general dps, even if youre behind the target, its still 6% chance to dodge that you cant remove. DERP. My point still stands.

Yeah and the point they tried to make was hunters and casters dont have to deal with that… as in they are dpsing. So the dps can get behind the target…Wanna make an argument that tanks should get some kind of parry reduction, sure.

Your point was it happens a lot more. If you wanna say you cant hit cap spells but can’t expertise cap in vanilla sure I agree with that. But pretending like spell resist doesn’t matter is wrong.
