Hello everyone, new player here and enjoying the game! But I have a question about the leveling experience. It seems like every mob I’m fighting has some sort of knock up/back ability or an interrupt or something. Its really painful playing as a caster, so I’m just wondering does it ever stop?
Use some protection.
Well there’s the problem, you’re leveling solo as a shaman, AKA the most useless for solo play.
Enhancement would alleviate your problems slightly but you’re really handicapped unless you level in a group.
Uh, no. Elemental crushes now.
@OP, those knocks are there to interrupt your cast. Just keep at it.
When it has gear. Elemental has always been dead last at start expansion levels of gear.
And when leveling, you’re not gonna be geared. Your cast times are awful, target swapping bad, burst damage completely rng on crit, etc etc
Also take a look at igneous potential. It’s basically 100% the only reason ele shamans do ST damage at the moment.
It’s easily one of the better ones even without gear, Legiondaries and all of that fancy twink stuff.
So, again - no.
Enemies keep knocking me up
/giggle
I play shaman solo in Restoration.
Youre going to have to deal with enemy effects, but you can heal like no bodies business with Resto shaman, so end of day, you win.
No really, go try level an ele shaman. You’ll find pulling anything more than 2/3 a major pain.
Your base cast times are 2s/2.5s, do absolutely jack all damage because its meant to be based off mastery at 70, and elemental fury at some level. Earth shock hits for potato amounts compared to other spenders, and earthquake is a much later level ability.
I did at the start of the expansion, and it has an ilvl over you.
It performs very well with mass pulling, aftershock procs, earth shield and - on the off chance you are in danger, the earth ele.
Factor in things like sephuz and it’s a joke until 116.
Sorry, you’re wrong.
You started at 110, with legion gear and legiondaries. Anything is easier with previous expansion gear.
To begin with, he’s level 30. A shield + mh might not even be his weapon, so that’s most of the armor gone already. He doesn’t have the core passives yet, and his stats are definitely not there.
It’s a nightmare for any caster trying to level in these conditions, but for ele shaman, unless you’re satisfied spamming frost shock repeatedly while running in circles, it won’t be easy.
The game is faceroll until Cataclysm content at around 80, so that doesn’t matter.
Every class in the game while leveling.
Not really, not for the last five years.
Nobody does this, nor is it good advice to do it.
phrasing!
I don’t know what you schmos are on about. I’ve been leveling a DID shammy and have not had any issues. But then I have a lot of experience and training from leveling my mage. Now THAT is a class that will teach you how to play a caster properly. All other caster classes have so many get out of jail free cards compared to a mage it’s not even funny. I still remember chain pulling about 6 kobolds in Loch Modan on my shammy no problems thanks to rock ele and heals. Can’t do that on a mage.
lol, funny way to start a thread.
Yes, it stops. Most mobs that can do that can only do it once or twice before you kill them.
As a caster you do have the option of standing way back out of range.
You can do it on a mage but you have to prepare first and be high geared enough to pull it off.
I always carry pots on my mage but I’ve managed to round up a 5 or so mobs and aoe them down.
As an elemental shaman, you have two abilities that can help you.
All shaman specs have Wind Shear. This is a great interrupt that only has a 12 sec. CD.
Elemental has Thunderstorm. This ability will deal damage, knock them back, slow them by 40%, and you can use it when stunned. It has a 45 sec. CD.
At level 42 you’ll get Hex, which will be great to put on one mob when you have two close together. Downside is it only works on humanoids and beasts.
So do not despair! Ele is fun to play and you do have a lot of tools in your tool box. They also fixed it so level 120 is fun now!
Forgot to add, make sure you have enough haste for faster casting.
Yea but that’s the thing. With mage you have to either burn like crazy in fire and dps race balls to the wall or frost like a Disney Princess and kite without pulling 50 adds. Once you get the gear though, just rush in and arcane blast the whole zone. At which point, it becomes pointless anyway.
It’s a shame mage lost so many spells. That and sub rogue were pretty much the “If you can play this, you can play anything” classes.
