Endgame content

Hey guys, I’m playing WoW with my partner.

We played Classic a fair bit and raided up to AQ40, now deciding to give Shadowlands a go.

I’m a bit confused with the end game content. In Classic the gear system seemed simple with the tier sets, however I can’t find any tier sets in retail or shadowlands.

Once I hit 60 in shadowlands how do I know which gear I need to aim for when raiding?

Also, the talent system. I can see it’s layout is completely different to Classic, but is it more or less similar?

ilvl is the only thing you really need to pay attention to, alongside ye olde stat weights.

Depends on what kind of raiding you’re looking to do.

Raid Finder only requires 171 I think.

Normal mode raiding groups mostly ask for 184-190 now and you can get gear of that level through Mythic dungeons and Mythic+.

Heroic mode groups usually look for around item level 200-210.

Beyond that Mythic raiding would mean you’d need to find a decent guild. This is really the “top tier level stuff”.

Man, this makes me remember, then miss tier sets. So simple, so easy to work with.

Someone on the dev team thought having tier sets were too confusing and restrictive, so they removed them in favor of random loot that never mixes together right so you need to farm more gear.

AskMrRobot is a good place to start, otherwise, any add-on that works out gear upgrades is the way to go.

Because of the many different ways to gear up in Retail the system isn’t quite the same. Instead each piece of gear has an item level on it and the higher the item level the better the item. It also has primary stats like strength for plate, agility for leather/mail, and intellect for cloth. Then it has secondary stats like haste, versatility, mastery, and crit. Some secondary stats are better than others for each class and spec. Generally just aim for the highest item level pieces you can get.

Once you reached the 204 ilvl, you’ll experience, what everyone is experiencing, known as the “loot drought”. This where you’ll be:

  • buying and selling wow tokens to buy ilvl 213+ BoEs from the AH
  • joining Heroic/Mythic Castle Nathria BoE farms to get upgrades
  • smashing your head against the wall in Mythic +9s
  • pugging/joining a guild to do Heroic/Mythic Castle Nathria.

Hopefully, your RNG is superb and your vault will grant you an upgrade with secondary stats pertaining to your spec.

You must go to a website and allow somebody’s current simulation decide what gear to go for and what talents to choose, and what bad guys to kill in each dungeon, and what your rotation is for every situation, and what to eat for breakfast, who to marry, what job to do for money, where to live, who to vote for, what music to listen to.

Not too bad tbh

don’t forget about the obligatory need to watch streamers and youtubers, so they can tell you how you’re meant to feel about the game, the people in it, and the people who create it.

yes and no.
you get to pick and choose what you want. (unless you feel like you need to be told how to play in order to be “relevant”)
…however, some people play for the sake of enjoyment, in which case you can choose whatever is going to best suit your style of play.
