The majority of the players I play/played with fits in that category. Its about moderation, if you want to no life WoW 24/7 you’re gonna get burnt out like everything else in life.
Just because some people only do easy dailies and solo content it doesn’t automatically mean they’re bad.
This is also true about group content, just because you dip your toe into Raiding/M+ doesn’t automatically make you better than solo players. I’ve grouped with some real trash over the years that do worse than your average bot.
My point is that when you play with randoms it doesnt matter how good you are/were, the general population simply dont care if you were KSH/CE 2 expansions ago. All they want to know is if you’ve done current content or do they need to teach you on their time.
There’s a lot more to being a good player than just executing your rotation. A good player works with others in terms of positioning, coordination of interrupts, helping others when healing is needed, protecting less armoured characters from harm, and so forth.
All that takes a lot of multi-tasking, and if you’re playing by yourself you only have one person to worry about. Yes, that takes a lot less skill.
Yea I used to raid too. Being casual and not wrapped in that culture let me enjoy the game more.
Mythic plus is like a nice decent content to pug for gear.
They also had a nice system in visions of nzoth that was discontinued in shadowlands sadly.
Raiding culture is nice but feels toxic sometimes. Very limiting to who you bring and what characters to main. Playing solo I can play any class when I feel like it. And enjoy the game more. As I am not obligated to please my guild or stick to one op character even if I get bored of playing the same meta spec.
When you are playing by yourself you have to take all the responsibility by yourself. In group contant you are depending on everyone sharing it and dealing with it with shared cds.
In solo content you are the tank, healer, and dps.
Group content is more dependent on others. In solo play everything is your fault/responsibilty. Its two different playstyles that are enjoyable.
I used to play with high io players… you can absolutely carry team mates.
I think solo play like the mage tower is more skill. It’s on you. There is no brez, no oops allowed and no one else to help out and carry you. Now, is picking 10 pinecones super clap ez? Ofc… Idk why anyone would use that example but they do.
Gonna mute this now because I am not gonna keep discussing how I want to play a video game. I still love WoW but I have no desire to do arena, keys, or raid anymore. I want to relax. Sometimes I get an itch to see if I am not rusty but that is becoming less and less. Would love some more challenge for solo play but I wouldn’t always partake.
Again, relaxing, unwinding and unbothered is my motto for games lately. It’s almost like we all want different things.
Yea all true. Although I think its to just pug a 15 every once in a while. Especially when healing or tanking. Those specs are pretty fun in group content. Even torgast.
I do tend to like enjoying transmog farming or cosmetics/pets mounts.
Season 3 had me farming tier transmog in group content which was nice to finally get current tier gear to farm. Normally I farm that when the raids are soloable…
Doing chill content and listening to some good music is how I enjoy most games now.
Responsibility does not equal skill. By that logic, all tanks are more skilled than DPS players because they have greater responsibility. But anyone that tanks will tell you (aside from leadership responsibilities) they don’t actually require any additional skill than other roles. Possibly less, because it’s way easier to survive as a tank.
No, skill is about multi-tasking, which is why mythic raiders are entitled to the best gear because they have to manage the most things at once.
If you can tank, DPS, and heal on one character, that doesn’t mean you are skilled. That just means you play a hybrid class. Does that make druid players more skilled than mages? Nope.
If you call solo playing a play style, and you do it because it’s relaxing, that’s because it’s easy. Harder content is not relaxing because it’s difficult, and that is why it garners the best rewards.
It’s exempt because not having to co-ordinate and communicate with others makes solo play infinitely easier to organise and execute.
A world quest that can be completed by one player at any time, is easily accessible to anyone, no matter their social manner, skill level, or other atrocious habits.
Group content in LFR or LFG is accessible to anyone that meets gear requirements but also needs some social etiquette to avoid getting kicked.
Group content that requires coordination needs all of the above plus scheduling.
It is these levels of additional difficulty that Blizzard is rewarding.
If people could solo mythic raids by scaling them down to one person difficulty, it devalues all of the other stuff they had to do to get there.
Getting access to gear does not equate to getting the achievements from raids nor the cosmetics.
And raids and dungeons already benefit from having good drop rates (in comparison to solo conent which is effectively 0% loot in modes such as torgast).
Yes groups require coordination to do. Group content has always been the fastest way to gear up. Solo content in past iterations had been far slower. Again you can spam 15s and get good gear and a nice max ilvl piece from the chest very easily.
Solo players have only world content that didn’t get anything at all in s4.
Group content deals with coordination by vetting players. Effectively the work is just finding equally skilled players. The vetting process makes the group content far easier imo. You can even choose to carry others for great gold making opportunities. The carry channel implementation was also a feature made for group content players funnily enough.
I have suggested things like having a solo way to get great vault loot. Torgast could have easily done that for example. So group players didn’t need to feel compelled to do that. At least for like 10/12s keystone gear. That would have been nice for solo play.
In season 2/3 I started my alts off at 10/12s. It was annoying to get in groups sometimes though. I know I would have just enjoyed spamming torgast. Idk why I had to do this whole other game mode to be good in torgast though. But blizz designed the game that way.
I think the solo experience has always been a matter of perspective. Solo content is the world and the story, and maybe some RP. Multiplayer is the competitive component, you can’t have competition without at least two people. High level gearing is what makes the difference in competition. You don’t need high level gear for story etc.
