AMERICA as in the United States of America, never declared war on the indigenous peoples living here. Which is actually legally necessary for it to be considered an actual war. It’s why when you do a simple search, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq are not officially considered wars because war was never actually declared. It’s called a war because military action was present, but there was no official backing behind it nor was any formal declaration made.
We are playing a game where player choice should matter so why not let each player choose themselves? The factions can stay but let the players pick their faction regardless of race. The whole idea that someone’s race determines their thought process is bogus anyway.
As an alternative they could implement a neutral third faction that can enter groups with either the horde or alliance but as a trade off they don’t get near the same rewards that faction-allied character would get from PvP.
There are drawbacks to both, I’m just spit-balling.
Back then, it was a dramatic faction imbalance across all aspects of the game. Now, the split is…what, 48-52? Maybe 46-54, I don’t remember, but it’s not as dramatic. The main issue is the fact all hard core players are Horde and Alliance are struggling there and seen as the more casual faction.
Simply adding High Elves won’t fix that. It would require making Alliance so OP that it entices mass transfer, but then where does that leave the Horde? Small OPness won’t entice just half of the hardcore players, even if min maxxing shows it’s the best. The huge issues the Alliance are facing can’t be fixed by adding a race.
Removing the factions in an aging game is the best path forward when considering both factions want more people to group with. I stand by this statement and will likely never detract from it. If not that, at least allowing cross faction grouping. I think this also would have helped the Horde back in BC, too, but that’s 13 years in the past. This is now, and it’s clear that small incentives like AoO and the Hall of Fame is not enough to get people to go Alliance.
I find it a little amusing that Blizzard is adamant on keeping the two factions, yet is unable to tell a convincing story that isn’t a world ending threat that everyone should put aside their differences to stop the big monster.
BfA was marketed as identifying as the factions and a sense of pride. (Remember those spots of people wearing red or blue shirts?) But turns out one faction was tricked into attacking the other because their leader was working with a big monster. Great faction pride there.
This is why I don’t like talking to you, you come off as super confrontational and honestly insulting. Like I’m to blame for your faction’s problems.
Yeah, the Mechagnomes compared to the Vulpera are bad. I’m not denying that. It’s the most lopsided of the races, and strong racials won’t fix that. Blizzard treats Alliance pretty badly, but that isn’t my fault. It isn’t the Horde’s fault. Blizzard writers and developers are inept, this is not a secret to anyone.
I have the fix that I want. That’s that. It’s a discussion board and I shared my opinions. I can’t do much else.
Actually I am part to blame for that misunderstanding. I had mentioned that the Alliance vs Horde aspect had come to a close at the end of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos.
Though in my defense I never said there was peace either. Just that the major conflicts like the first and second war were done.
Someone in my faction population thread brought up an activity graph on warcraft realms today that pointed out a MASSIVE drop in alliance activity during prime time that accompanies a likewise MASSIVE spike in horde activity.
People have alliance characters. They just aren’t playing them.
I don’t see why the lore makes it impossible for individual players to work together though. PVP restrictions (including hostile NPCs) should remain the same, but groups/raids/guilds should all be opened up.
You just don’t care about them, but expect me to accept your solutions just because they don’t inconvenience me at the same time they would benefit you.
I don’t see removal of the factions as a good solution. I accept that it would probably solve the problems. I just don’t like how it would work.
And I will stand by “google is a thing”. It’s literally a 30 second search for something that basic (the validity is a deep rabbit hole though. Blizzard won’t make census information available under any circumstances because it would impact share prices. Honestly, doing so would probably get them in trouble with the FCC).
Edit: Also, I am confrontational. I know it’s not good, but when I try to not be, people get confrontational anyway. Then I get mad, etc.
It’s easier to just start off a bit confrontational and then step it back.
Most Night Elves in the lore would probably hate the Horde and especially the Forsaken. Players, on the other hand, are not necessarily representative of the majority of their race.
