Again, in your opinion, but there is a good enough fanbase for EVE that they still keep pushing out content.
WoW being mainstream is really kind of a joke.
It’s the most casual mmo on the market, intentionally designed to be accessible to the largest playerbase on the market, casual gamers.
It’s why it was able to do so well on its launch because no other game was looking for casual players.
WoW has long been feeling the repercussions of this design, but that is an entirely different discussion.
Also, I’m only asking for cross faction play like literally almost every other mmo on the market with factions has, didn’t really ask for anything else from EVE.
There is something deeply flawed about the way the faction war is implemented in the game.
Two factions with clear racial divides. That’s not a thing, realistically speaking. It’s also not a thing in lore as others have mentioned. The more nuanced the lore has gotten, the less and less sense this has made. Clear racial divides were a bit less forced back in the RTS days when the story was less nuanced. You had an orc invasion from another planet and humans trying to defend their planet.
Nowadays, it’s a liiiittle uncomfortable. We’ve got the weird people with their poorly written fantasy racism, we’ve got zero player agency to co-operate with other players on the opposite faction, and we’ve got Blizzard making us co-operate with the other faction/other races in the story all the time. It’s very broken, narratively speaking.
Eve is… well there a spreadsheets yes. But is a game that gives you the option to literally be anything. To do anything provided finances support it.
I personally stopped playing because I got sick end tired of having every ship I flew popped because of Player pirates that would hang out at every low security jump point. Had one of my best ships literally pop in the 3 seconds I looked away. And I was taking the safest route possible. To bad every route has a low security jump point right after every high security one.
With that in mind, WoW is an entirely different creature from Eve. Both from the concept and implementation right down to the character deaths. In WoW, if we fight and one of us dies, we just respawn. In Eve. We fight one of us loses and explodes the winner can loot the wrecked. And the loser respawns at a safe place minus their ship and gear.
And honestly that is your choice and I agree to an extent. What I envision for the faction optional path is this:
example: 2 players
Player 1 does not do quest to become faction-tied, they register as neutral (Yellow creature and attack-able) by both factions but can freely enter any city or territory.
Player 2 does quest to become faction-tied. They register as perma-green except when duelling for all members of associated faction. Player is now restricted from entering opposing sides territories without fighting every guard they encounter. Is obviously attack-able by neutrals and opposing side.
Now to keep factions interesting you put in faction-only quests. Ie. One must be Alliance or Horde to accept certain quests. You wouldn’t for instance trust a mercenary with guarding your diplomat. But you could trust them to hunt down and eliminate bandits.
Oh no, Blizzard has given Horde reasons to hate Alliance as well, they just have a tendency to downplay, overshadow with Horde’s bad actions or sweep these reasons under the rug while they keep reminding the Alliance why they should hate the Horde.
That’s one of the things they really need to fix. They need to stop being afraid of actually showing the Alliance’s bad side but then again, considering the reaction they get when the Alliance does win and does it while looking nearly flawless…
No, I want them to do it right. And yet, with all the bad moves, the factions have still remained distinct.
The status quo it’s bad writing. I want them to do it better, how is that wanting to stick with mediocrity?
But again, we’re not experiencing it in the same way.
Yeah well, I can never agree with that. I don’t want to randomly end up with a human or a draenei in my party when I specifically picked to play Horde just because you don’t think a merc mode it’s good enough.
Why your wish should be taken into account but not mine?
They could opt in for it because it wouldn’t be for queue times, but to get things done…
You too are using gameplay mechanics to claim there was something when it was just a side thing? I did mention Halaa and yet, that had no relation to the main story whatsoever.
I prefer “sanctimonious spacegoats” but yeah, you’re right, I forgot the name of that side.
I had to, I didn’t want to. If I had the option, I would have told Tyrande to suck it up and, possibly, I would have gone and poke Malfurion with a pointy stick while cackling like a villain together with Xavius for a good time.
I would have also let the Exodar burn, but sadly, I didn’t have a choice.
And don’t even get me started with jaina…
Lack of choices is not good, which is why I’m in favor of a merc mode rather than forcing everyone that doesn’t want to group up with the faction they didn’t pick.
You can’t honestly be pointing out the times we had to work together (wether we liked it or not) and then claim that is everywhere.
Forcing those that don’t want to play with the opposite faction is not the answer either.
Anyway, I got work to do, I’ve procrastinated enough.
Cross faction grouping wouldn’t be like merging the factions. The story ALWAYS ends up with horde and alliance holding hands and taking down the big bad. Then inexplicably right back at each other’s throats for no reason what so ever.
I thought so too for a while. But I got tired of always having my ships explode while in transit from system to system. There are some pirates in that game that sit there with the equivalent to WoW top gear waiting for a ship to transit out of jump just to pop you no matter the size of your ship.
Like a 120 DH ambushing a level 1 anything. For some people that’s cool. For some eh, once a day fine. 3 times in a half hour… yeah. I reached my limit unfortunately. Still a great game. Just a few problems spots in my opinion.
You and me both. I don’t think we will ever agree, but I think that’s fine. We want different experiences. I will advocate for mine but yours are valid, too.
I feel some responses grew snappy at me, but I appreciate the fact that we could still have a discussion without it devolving into insults.
I hope you have a good day at work and don’t get in trouble for the debate you and I had (I need to stop talking, too, but it’s hard to resist).
Fair enough. I ran into one pirate who was decent. He blew up one of my mining ships that are given away like candy. Even fully loaded with Tritanium it wasn’t worth much. He payed me 4 mil ISK as his way of saying “Hi”. Bit of a dick move but considering said ship was insured + 4 mil I think I could forgive him.
Now that jerk in the tech 3 or 4 battleship or whatever that melted my tech 2 tumour ship in literally 3 seconds from looking away from the screen after a successful battle mission… yeah. That broke me. So much gear I needed, as well as my best ship parts. All gone. Raged quit and never went back.
Ha i was hoping you’d see it. It wasn’t meant as a jab towards you.
Yeah what i’m replying to in this, is that they said There isn’t any lore that say’s a war is going on post vanilla. Or something along those lines. I can’t speak much for post Cata because that’s when i stopped playing.
I figured, I got a good chuckle when I saw it. Just got distracted before I could reply, haha.
And yeah, that’s fair. I just want consistency. BfA was the last chance in my mind for Blizzard to show that they cared about the faction war and they blew it. Going forward, I highly doubt there will be anything that’ll put me back on the Horde’s side, I just play it to be this character and my friends are here. And it hurts to be so disconnected from the story.
I will never work with the alliance. And I wouldn’t blame the alliance for never working with me. No matter how much blizzard tries to fix relations I will always hate the alliance for ganking me as a lowby, just like I ganked them. Honestly screw the alliance.
